  1. I’m in. I’ll build one of the 19 Squadron aircraft.
  2. This is coming together well enough, albeit a bit slowly. There are lots of wee little parts to get right and not lose. The motor is all done...disregard that cracked gear box! 😆 The cockpit was a lot of little bits, but it looks good. Once it all done I will give it an OD Drab exterior. --John
  3. I have attached the undercarriage and the canopy, removed all the masks. I am very pleased wit the paint job. It might be my best yet. The underside is looking good. I have a couple of painting touch-ups...nothing actually anyone but me would notice. Then it's decal time all around! I'll start with the stencils of course. --John
  4. I shot the moon and freehanded the RAF Green #2...I am very happy with it. I did go back with the EDSG and tighten up some lines...once again freehand airbrush. Now...As I continue on, I have come to the fun, nerve-racking and nail biting part of the kit...cutting up the underwing registration decals so they fit onto the lowered undercarriage doors, which are also split...Understand? I actually kind of love doing this. Using the Eyeball 3.0 2024 model, I get to use kittle scissors and steady nerves... Craziness...Obviously it makes sense to attach the remaining decals to the underside of the wings anyway while I'm at it. Can't have little bits of paper floating about with nowhere to go! I actually made quick work of it. No off-colour language. Well, almost none! 😁 Any discrepancies regarding perfection will be overlooked once the undercarriage is attached, etc, etc... Oh yes...we had out first brushfire of the season yesterday. Ok...it was damp, which was lucky. Unfortunately we were in the midst of a thunderous windstorm that raged for over 24 hours...Beaufort 7-8, gusting to 9 easily. Ferries were cancelled...All pretty normal here really. Even the fire. Frightening. It began around 17:00 and our brave firefighters had it out by 03:30 and earlier in the day they had help from this heroic soul. Imagine flying a water chopper in B8 winds and scooping water from the sea? That's some serious skill, my friends, serious flying. --John
  5. Oooof! Feels like years since I sat at the bench. I need to wrap some things up, for sure. This is one. I'm almost there. I have painted the struts and gear black; I have added control lines to the control horns; and I have added what I think are part of some sort of air filter/radiator/carburator unit that I saw on another build...Here's a picture of that build, not by me and I fished the image from the Interweb... It's obviously a kit piece that did not come with my rendition of the K-5. Yet I had a space moulded on mine that looks like it needs a part... So I added some bits of plastic. I'm ok with it. What's left, you say? Attaching the wheels, maybe a little exhaust stains...not much. Some painting touch ups here and there. --John
  6. Thanks Dennis. I was really careful with the decals. Not nearly a jigsaw puzzle but the did split a bit. It worked out.
  7. I mixed up a variation of the @Corsairfoxfouruncle 'Aluminum Dope', i.e. 50/50 grey primer and aluminum. It went on well and looks more the part than the straight NMF. I let that dry for a few hours and then went into the decals, which, as per any Amodel decal set I have ever used, all but shattered. I was able to piece them together with some patience, lots of water and some colourful language. I will spray them with satin varnish later tonight after they are dry. They are too delicate/thin for a hairy brush. I let them unroll themselves, btw...no sense making them worse! Port and starboard are the same configuration... Time to let that dry. Other things to do. I am back on the mainland tomorrow for a couple of nights so I want to get some of this off the bench before I go. --John
  8. Here is my contribution to this STGB. This is the new Airfix kits and I recommend it, for all levels of modelling. It really comes together well and easily. The only flaw is in the tracks I assembled. There is a small gap in each side, i.e. the track pieces do not fit flush. One I ignored and the other I just used one of the spare track pieces that would have been attached to the turret. I added some bolts (plastic rod) where the missing piece would have been on the turret. You can see it in the fifth image. The WiP is here... May thanks to the Moderators for this one. A very fun build indeed. --John
  9. Thank you. I think at this scale, for me at least, chipping can become problematic...too much, that is. I like how the undercoat really shows through a bit and tones down the 'white' aspect of the paint. It's not a UN vehicle after all! I am about to post in the gallery.
  10. Thank you both. I'm not one to paint my vehicles in the 'factory fresh' mode. I'l get this in the gallery later today.
  11. Me too. And now that I think my Tiger over in the STGB is finished, I have room on the bench.
  12. So this afternoon I did this...It might look a little sloppy, but don't worry. I imagine Belorussia wasn't the cleanest of theatres. And then this is the what the topside looks like... And then I came home from a club meeting and it took about an hour to do this. I think it's finished. Grimy little beast. --John
  13. Thank you Craig. And I've jumped in. Good looking little kit, with some excellent detail, some very thin little parts and almost no flash anywhere. Nice. And page one...It all looks rather fiddly. And it is. Part 7A, btw...only somewhat resembles what is on the sprue. It fits. And I will leave this here to dry a bit...I pre-painted the parts to facilitate construction. Old school. --John
  14. OK! Here I am again, back at the bench. I was thinking how best to over-paint this tank. I imagine out in the field they weren't using brushes so much as something akin to hand mops. And it's whitewash, which isn't really white paint...So I used an old, stiff hairy brush and some off-white paint. And afterwards. I used an ear bud to wipe away the parts for the numbers on the sides and rear of the turret. I neglected to do the same for the crosses on the sides of the body. I'll fix it, don't worry. I think the next step will be painting the rubber wheels and then assembling the tracks. There will be some fine weathering needed here. All the different places where hands and feet will have been, exhaust stains, oil, mud and dust... --John
  15. Thank you...and I'm back at it today after a couple of days off. Masked... And with the Extra Dark Sea Grey. Tomorrow I hope to get some RAF Green 2 on there. --John
  16. I just used straight aluminum. I can always soften it with another thin layer of your recipe. 😄
  17. Here's my first entry, and I think it might be the first chopper for this GB. Correct me if I'm wrong? I'll get into it when I get back from the mainland. Nice little profile... --John
  18. I'm off-island tomorrow until Saturday (I'll visit the LHS, see friends, have coffee...)...I thought it would be good to get the paint going here. High speed silver...it'll get some varnish once the decals are on, of course. --John
  19. The white primer was a good choice. It kept the aluminum NMF from being too dark. Ok, it's not quite so grey as aluminum dope, but then again, It's not finished either. I am off-island tomorrow until Saturday so I figured I'd get some NMF work done before I head out. --John
