  1. Hey guys I stumbled upon a great discovery after giving up trying to find Klear, I discovered this Wilko Laquer Acrylic Spray Clear 400ml £3.95 a can and you only need a fine coat so one tin would easily do ten models (not confirmed just a guess) no messing with air brushes spray straight out of the can. I have tried this on an Italeria Black Panther Tornado 1.48 which if you know the model has extensive decal layout and also a 1.35 Tamiya SAS Jeep both worked a charm the lacquer lay down perfectly flat, no yellowing, dried quickly and dried really hard within 24 hours (dry to the touch within an hour) two things to watch is that it is very sticky so try not to touch model or finger marks will not be correctable and dries very shiny but after weathering and washes the shine disappears. Perfect for car models though produces a gleaming shine, in the range they have the lacquer, primers and a range of colours all at £3.95. This range has definitely made my life easier with modelling and very reasonably priced. Its designed to be used on plastic, its acrylic and dries really hard only positive things to say about this product.
  2. Hey I'm wanting to write a review but I don't seem to have this facility i.e. create new topic, I wrote one a few months back but it seems to have disappeared, can you explain why please
  3. Thanks for the replies guys, well the F15 is well under way to being restored, I'm kind of glad that it happened now as it looks better than before and I corrected a few things I was unsure of. I used some of the tips mentioned above and it helped a lot, unfortunately I couldn't save the decals so I have ordered after market ones but not the ones I wanted. But I will just be glad to get this finished and looking something like how it was meant to be. Thanks again, ill post some pictures up of it restored and repaired when I get five minutes.
  4. Not sure if this is the right place to post this, I did check but couldn't find anywhere with a suitable category, I need some help so here goes. After spending hours on my F15E I thought I would try some weathering from Vallejo with a model wash, so I followed all the instructions applied 3 coats of Johnsons Klear applied decals and then a further coat of Klear, so once I was all prepared I applied the wash. I left it over night and then started to remove it with a wet piece of kitchen roll. The result was disastrous see pictures below So at the moment I'm pretty distraught and kicking myself, this is the first time I've used model wash and I don't think ill use it again. Can anyone offer any assistance in advice to where I go from here apart from the bin. More info.. So I watched the videos on how to do it and it all looked simple enough, paint the wash on leave over night and rub off. Problem was that the wash was really difficult to remove so tried a really wet sponge so after doing some research it would suggest that this problem occurs if no klear or gloss coat has been applied. But I applied at least four coats so I don't understand where I went wrong, as I said I'm not sure what to do now. The paint job turned out well I thought and the filling worked well but after applying the wash it destroyed the paint any klear coating and softened and removed some of the filling. Thanks in advance
  5. Thanks Paul Great tips, this forum is helping me take my modelling to another level with the precision detail, not quite there yet but practice makes perfect. I will post some pictures of my progress.
  6. Also I have just noticed that the canopy has a seem line right down the middle, how did you manage to remove it? Thanks
  7. Hey Paul Have taken a look and wow you did an excellent job, did the seat belts come with the kit? hope my come out close to what yours look like.
  8. So far I've ordered Hataka 6x 17ml AS43 Acrylic Paint Set - Ultimate USAF F 15 Eduard 1/48 F-15E Strike Eagle etch for Monogram or Revell kit Don't see the need for PE on the external as the detail is already very good especially the engines Discovered Hataka paints yesterday, what a brill idea.. (especially like the ball bearing inside each bottle) Still undecided to have pilots or resin ejector seats
  9. Hey Simon 382 I'm following the 391st FS Tiger Lead scheme as the kit comes with very nice decals for 9-11 remembrance and tiger stripes you can see a preview of the scheme here
  10. Wow only £4.50 think ill buy two as it is a two seated aircraft
  11. Hey all My next model I'm building is an 1.48 F15E from Revel it looks a good and challenging model to build. One downside is that it does not come with a pilot and the ejection seats supplied do not look very convincing. So has anyone built this and have you either obtained a pilot or purchased the high detailed pre moulded ejection seats? With this model I want the cockpit to really stand out so I will buying some added detail so if anyone knows where I can get a pilot can you let me know. I'm starting this next week after I finish my A10 and I will post pictures as I build.
  12. Thanks for the replies I mostly work in 1.48 occasionally 1.72 and 1.32 the A10 is a 1.48, have tried Tamiya tape even the flexi version but had no luck and ended up with leakage. I've left most of the stripes off as I don't want to spoil the rest of the model but I do like the idea of the balloon and circle drawing technique something I will try when I do the F14 I have got. It did occur to me that a rotating chuck similar to a lathe running at slow speed would be a great tool for stripes and circular work, in fact I have an old motor from an Airfix GMR tank engine that could do the job once hooked up to a battery, just a thought.
  13. Hi Guys I'm building an A10 Tankbuster and spent a ton of time on the body, I'm now at the missile's and wondered if you guys had any tips on how to paint the thin stripes on them. Unfortunately no decals for the missiles were provided with the kit and seems a shame to skip these details off. Thanks
  14. Hey Just a quick hello and to say I'm looking forward to joining you guys. I'm returning to model making after a twenty five year break and its surprising how much things have moved on, have watched a few YouTube videos and some of the work being done is stunning. I don't think I'll get to that level but I'm just doing the models to please myself not to win awards currently working on an A10 by Tamiya, I'm following the build guide on the forums and its helped a lot although I still cant get painting camouflage right. I work on a budget and don't use branded paints rather cheap acrylic it does the job even if its not accurate. But my look on it is if it looks something near the picture on the box and I'm happy and enjoyed the build its a job done Anyway dare say I'll bug you guys for help a lot as it seems by the builds on here you guys have got tons of experience. Happy modelling.
