  1. Hi Graham, Thanks for your well considered response. Correct me if I'm wrong, but i think you are saying that the weight of evidence suggests the correct colour for the centre block is RED and thus Revell were mistaken for their decal colour of light blue in the center. Further, this mistake may have occurred because of a similar design used on a Spitfire which featured a predominance of blue for the three bands (i.e., middle + upper + lower). This last point, along with black & white photos of a Hurricane which featured a 'light tone center' surrounded by darker upper & lower bands, was (in error) interpreted as light (blue) centre with darker-blue upper & lower bands; whereas the correct format was: red centre with dark blue upper and lower bands.
  2. In my stash is the old Revell 1/32 scale Hurricane MK 11C kit# 85-4667. The decal sheet includes an option for aircraft "BP349", Western Desert 1943. It's livery includes a roundel with a tapered arrow through it. The arrow is coloured light blue, with dark blue boarders above and below. I've seen other completed models in 1/48 scale for this squadron that feature, not a L.blue, but a bright red main arrow. All internet searching as well as a reference photo in a book I have, doesn't show the L.blue option (i.e., only the red option shows in my book and on images I found on the net). So I'm trying to verify if the standard issue Revell decals done with the L.blue are the wrong colour. That is, did Revell make a mistake with the decal sheet for this kit, or were there variations in colour for the real aircraft of 73 squadron?
  3. Thanks to those of you who have replied to my question about the availability of old Airfix catalogues in digitalised format, however the question still remains as to whether or not someone, or some Airfix interest group, has gone to the trouble of collecting these and digitalising them. The Airfix Tribute website certainly addresses various aspects of the catalogues with there thread "catalogues", but I still can't see any evidence of the full scan of all pages for the catalogues ? Or is it there but I just can't see it?
  4. I'm wondering if someone/organisation has collected and digitalised all those old Airfix Catalogues from the 60's and 70's. And are they available as a download. In particular, I'm interested in Edition #10, dated 1973 (I think that date is correct) as I had a copy as a boy back then and would love to peruse the pages again, if only in a digital version. I've searched the net and found images of the front cover, but I haven't been able to find a file that has all the scanned pages for me to download the entire catalogue.
  5. Hi folks, I'm a recent new member of to Bit Modeller and am still discovering all the 'bits and pieces' this wonderful web site (is that the correct name?) has to offer. I especially like the build review articles. Regarding vacformed kits: Some say it's the ultimate in modelling! And of course it's very time consuming compared to your standard styrene kit issue. I've never built one, but have bought one, Rare Planes 1/72 scale Ventura for US$8, with the intention of doing so in the near future. I searched the BM site hoping to find a SIG (Special Interest Group) who specialize in vac-formed kits but no luck. I would find it surprising if no such group exists as there seems to be a SIG for just about anything else these days! Perhaps it's there somewhere but my computer wiz search skills (what skills, you may ask!!?) have let me down. So please, could one of you kindhearted guys/gals advise me IF such a group exists, and info on how to access the site.
  6. Hi fellow modellers, hi from me in the land down under (i.e., Australia). This is my 1st ever post and I'm not much of a computer wiz, so let's hope i don't embarrass myself or burn out your web site by pressing the wrong key! I'm building the Ursus-made 1/72 scale SR53 (i.e., the Eastern block kit made from old AFX tooling) and want to add some scribed panel line details for the upper wing. Do date, all my searching has failed to find a nice plan view of the upper wings which include the panel detail. I've seen this detail in photo's taken at an obscure angle, so I know it exists! So does anyone out there have such a drawing? I also understand that the actual SR53 is on display at the Cosford air museum (but correct me if I'm wrong), so I would imagine that some enthusiastic modeller would have gone there and pleaded a case to allow access for the purpose of obtaining such details. As I said in the title for this post- the detail seems as rare as hens teeth, but here's hoping!
