EXCELLENT ! I had visions of your modification, needing modifying at the 11th hour, I can't imagine how frustrating that would have been, I have heard some of these kits have very close tolerances, anyway, I am glad all will be well and your new head rest is WAY better than the kit one.... I shall sit down and take my seat once again and quietly watch with great interest as you build progresses along... your friend will be so excited, I'm sure.... Cheers for now Jeff

AWESOME idea and subject..... I love what you did to the pilot's seat , head and shoulders over the kit part, ................. but............ it made me wonder, if by any chance , as the kit part is so short and cut off so to speak, will your excellent modification 'foul', for the want of another word, the canopy sections.... I'd hate to see you go to a ton of work to find the canopy section won't fit as the pilot's seat may be too high.... I am absolutely not throwing cold water on your mod, but maybe if at all possible to check the clearances of seat top and canopy fit, before you get it looking perfect, and then have to start cutting parts.... this is just a random thought as it may be something you possibly haven't thought of......... I am, along with the other guys, going to pull up a chair and watch this build.... I am looking forward to all your updates... cheers for now Jeff

Oh I get that ! When I am at the coast I ALWAYS hit the Flying Beaver Pub, for a great burger and a few gallons of beer, sitting right at the float plane base... I could sit there for days ! Awesome activity..... last summer I even saw a Beech 18 on floats, now that was cool! Jeff Thanks for the great info, and yes we sometimes do forget whats going on in the world.... Jeff

Just wondering, as I am like you guys, patiently waiting for this beauty, is it still in the works? Any thoughts on a possible release date? I hope it hasn't been put on the back shelf.....such an iconic bird for us here in Canada, the possibilities are endless..... Jeff

You mention using cotton thread for rigging, and it looks like cotton thread.................. a tip that was passed on to me a long time ago, was to run your cotton thread through some bees wax... I tried it on a Spad kit I build years ago and it took all the 'fuzzies' off the thread and it is still holding taught to this day and I built the kit 35 years ago....I used it recently on a 1/25 scale wrecker unit I build and it worked just fine, bees wax is readily available, maybe for fun, try that, and see how you make out.... just a random thought.... Cheers Jeff -
I totally agree, Pat's books are THE go to for expert information .. I am lucky enough to own 4 of them ....... and I refer to them ALL the time, well worth the money to purchase and I highly recommend them..... Jeff

My dad was ground crew, Motor Transport Section, fuel bowsers, mostly, and some times as kicker.... I have a few pics of him there... 435 has a very proud history, and are still flying, lately C130's based out of CFB Winnipeg, but has a Search and Rescue detachment at CFB Comox on our west coast.

Richard............ my dad was stationed at Tulihul in India and Mandalay , with the RCAF 435 Chinthe Squadron, also RCAF 436 Elephant Squadron was stationed at Rngoon. The two squadrons were formed in Gujrat in 1944. 435 flew Dakota Mk III's. Jeff

I can't wait for this..... I loved the Airfix 1/72 kit, and built a few of them and have some still in the stash, but this at 1/48 is AWESOMELY good, and like mentioned earlier, maybe one day the Otter.... but I don't want to get ahead of the game, this is so cool, and a real and true bush plane ..... FINALLY !! Thank you Dora Wings ! Jeff

How does the paratroopers door open/close in flight in C-47?
Biggu replied to DLinevitch's topic in Aircraft WWII
Noelh, has the right thoughts, my dad was with 435 (T) sqdn RCAF in India / Burma, and they flew C-47's and for all their drops the 'para' door was removed on the ground and left there, it was easier for them not to have to mess with the door in flight, and the extra weight that was taken off with the door, let them carry another sack of food for the folks on the ground, and also gave them some cool air to breathe, as it was a very hot environment to fly ops in... so with this particular squadron, the para doors were rarely on the aircraft....
