  1. Yeah that's what i'd do Johnny. Satin for metal then matt for painted areas. Especially the olive drab bits, whole reason they are there is to stop the glare 👍🏿 I'm a poet and I know it, I rhyme all the time
  2. Mr paint's dark green is on. Not very dark at all. Came out quite blotchy too. Freehand with 0.2 needle. Hopefully a pre decal gloss will smooth things out. Ps - sky band was sprayed first after the primer before adding all the day fighter shades. Again easier to mask off than mask around.
  3. Great stuff. +1 for a satin. Matt will kill off too much sparkle and make it look like light grey instead of NMF 👍🏿
  4. Good progress so far, however you've missed off the little rudder pedal foot straps - on the etch fret mate 👍🏿
  5. Some of my thoughts in more detail regards the new hataka orange line, because not everyone is into spitfires so won't get to learn about this new paint here in this WIP 👍🏿
  6. Thanks Johnny 👍🏿 Thanks, it's really easy to use I did the Mr paint Serb C wing also last night but didn't want to bore people with too many pics. Just the Mr Color one left to do now! Thanks, the hataka paints do have a lovely consistent finish, no blotchy areas like you can get with some other brands when you thin them down.
  7. Next! @HATAKA OFFICIAL Hataka orange line. (Lacquer type) Green added freehand with a 0.2mm needle. *Amazing paint* I now rate this over Mr Color and as good as if not better than Mr Paint. Will start a new topic in the paint section about it in more detail. Nuff said. I'll let the pics do the talking. Have a great weekend all!
  8. Now for the xtracrylix! This is the Russian E wing. Note this scheme will have a white tail and rudder. The rudder was left off and painted seperate along when the tail was done in white straight after primer before the ocean grey. The tail was then masked off. It's an easier area to mask off than mask around if that makes sense. Coming along fast now... Freehand work (all soft edge) for the next three! Speaking of which not sure about the half and half of these last two (ak & xtra) regards the demarcations. I like the all hard edge colourcoats, but these with the bit of both is making me tick a bit...
  9. Next green is done! This time it is the AK air on the greek C wing. Persevered With the paper masks, used some loops of tape to get them to 'float' ever so slightly. Green on! With the grey - turns out quite a light/pale scheme. Guess its Ak's 'scale effect' pre lightened colours. Should work well for this soon to be old sunbleached greek plane... Also started compiling this chart cause I am strange Again, Thanks for looking 👍🏿
  10. Nice save! Regards intake - Quickboost do a resin nose part, perhaps it addresses this fit problem? I have one in the stash and can't see any difference in it between the kit part. So perhaps there is a tiny difference in size. Will have to measure it one day...
  11. Thanks very much mate I'm flattered! Those spitfires in your 'sorry they are late' makes you a guru. You either know what you're on about or very convincing at pretending that Some of that kit bashing is something I wouldn't dream of yet! And yeah I like the idea of building to reference pics
  12. Please teach/advise me how to improve for the next one? Thats not sarcasm I am always willing to learn, thats why we are here on this forum... You're the current spitfire build guru I believe The pattern is 90% there I think, With this being a post war plane in turkish markings I imagine there would be most likely be some repainting/covering old markings? So for this one there is room for a little 'fudge factor' to keep the spitfire at bay... Which is why I painted it first 👍🏿
  13. http://www.yolo.net/~jeaton/mymodels/spitfire/templates/SpitTemp.html They are 1/48 so I printed them off as is then reduced (think it was 66% or so) on photocopier 👍🏿
  14. I would, but they are just old papers (the sun?) pinched out of the restroom at work
  15. 1st green camo done! This was done early evening yesterday before I posed the question to @Cookenbacher about getting the paper masks to work, the templates which I got from a link which @Procopius did a while back. As I couldn't get the paper masks to stay flat enough, I just traced the shapes onto large tamiya tape and used that. It's resulted in a sharp hard edge which seems ok to me for 1/72. I am going to try again though with the paper masks now I have learned a better method of attachment using loops to get a slight feathered edge 👍🏿 Anyways back to this - thinned 50% with colourcoats own brand and sprayed in light coats at around 15psi. Lovely smooth finish with no ridges from the tape Only one area needed touching in where the tape had lifted so I just remasked that tiny part and extended the green a bit... Crisp! To @Jamie @ Sovereign Hobbies you can use these images if you like 👍🏿 Thanks for looking guys.
  16. Is the white too thin? As in the thinner in it is dissolving the red again? What about a bit thicker with the white and dust it on first. Was there a way of keeping the red to the red areas only before the white was added? Perhaps if you need to strip and restart? Ps brush or spray? I've assumed spray here.
  17. Welcome to the forum! Nice plug for your channel... Watching videos with dramatic background music for me is like watching paint dry. Life is too short. And then time lapsed videos with no audio are useless too as people will most likely miss the critical point you're trying to get across. Personally, I don't think you can beat a sequence of say half a dozen pics with an explanation below each. But then if we all liked the same thing (apart from spitfires obviously) then it would be a boring world...
  18. Just a quick one mate, how did you get those masks to stay on? Tried using those templates too, even cut those slots out to help hold them down with tape but wasn't good enough. Yours appear to be 'floating' ? Tony
  19. Very true isn't it! That's exactly why I did each in isolation too - they all look 'correct' on their own. Also the angle of the light may play a part, the ak has quite a satin sheen so may seem even brighter due to that?
  20. Here are all the greys together as promised! Here they are closer together and overlapping for a better comparison. You can still identify the brands by using the picture of all six above, the ones in the left and right columns have just been turned 45 degrees and slotted in. Hope that makes sense! Each one in isolation: Thanks for looking!
  21. Thanks 👍🏿 Its not back to full speed though as they are sharing the factory with some spitfires at the moment
  22. Update for plane no.1 on the list of builds - F14B vf102 Another tweak for hobbyboss kits in general, did this on the last build (A - vf32) but not the first three builds (vf's 101, 31 & 213) So the kit part for the probe has some of the nose cone on it, perhaps to make it easier to handle? To paint the whole part silver is too much. So I glued it on, sorted the seam then sliced of the part that will be in a bare metal colour. Some of the resin upgrade bits are on. The cream parts - can just make them out under the spot priming or where still rough areas have been sanded back. They are from my casting project - ventral fins with vents. Lantirn pod, bomb-racks and pylons/lau-138 rails to which I added details to make masters. Also the TCS pod is cast part, master had seams sorted and lens drilled out ect. Soon be ready for a proper priming session. Canopy is masked and ready. Bye for now 👍🏿
