  1. In a nutshell a filter is a thin translucent layer of paint to alter the base colour. Is can be pre or post decals depending on the effect you want to achieve. For example, on a plane with green camouflage if I were to add a lighter green filter in places to give the green camo shade some variation to add interest in places I would add it pre decals to avoid giving the decals a greenish tinge. I rarely put a filter over a whole area otherwise you may havewell just painted that part in the resultant colour to begin with. This type of colour changing filter is best applied on alternating panels etc to show a difference. If however I wanted to 'fade' the overall green more than give it a variation, I would use grey and white filters. These could be done post decals because the grey and white filters would fade/lighten the markings too (as they would have been exposed to the sun for the same amount of time) rather than change their colour with a tinge if you used a filter that was a lighter colour of the base under the decals. The former is where the market for all these multiple different complimentary shades of filter comes in to alter your base paint. The later can be done on all colours with a tube of grey and white oil paint (insert preferred brand here) or oilbrusher things Hope that helps and makes sense. Out in town on the ale at the minute...
  2. Thanks pal, can't take much credit though. Probably because the faces are so crisply cast - they were painted akan beige and then given a brown wash. Thats it! Cheers, Tony
  3. True, hardly ever see a viking. Are there any other choices out there kit wise? Good effort mate 👍🏿
  4. Ok I will see what I can do. Will chat to him and confirm size of booth. But I suppose if its a nice day then a pic could be taken outside I suppose because its a proper camera. Transportation of them all to his place may prove challenging however...
  5. Wow thanks so much guys, I'm a bit taken aback by all the positive comments! Didn't think it would go down this well because its a boring drab scheme with no colour... I am very happy with this one but the photos (same for most of my RFI's) could be better as only done with an iPhone. Some in this thread looked stretched to me when I saw them on a computer monitor earlier. Seem more in proportion when viewed on an i-device type thing. I am going round to a mate's in a couple weekends to use his set up for better pics. I will be taking this bird and a few others @bearmatt and @sandros these hobbyboss cats are quite an easy build, only need a few basic tweaks as per my mod list if you can live without the hasegawa upgrade parts and extra AM resin. Give one a go! Cheers, Tony
  6. Lovely clean build 👍🏿 Makes me want one! Another kit to add to the stash...
  7. Hmmm you're probably right. Will keep two for the GB with resin and etch etc wearing AM decals. Might do a quick one or two for 'familiarisation'

    .

Well I only brush small details not whole kits. I can say the normal colours do brush fine, the metals are a bit thinner so would need many coats. Haven't tried brushing these yet. Wouldn't fancy brushing an NMF myself but nothing to stop you trying I suppose? PS this plane is now complete, RFI here:
  9. Sundowners RFI done! A mini groupshot to show the colour comparison of this Light grey VF111 against Gull grey and TPS: And a nice close up with the recent Tophatter. My favourite two so far. Thanks for looking as always. whats next
  10. Couple of the new 1/72 airfix kits lined up for this. Can't wait
  11. Of course you can mate - Don't put yourself down before you've even started! Thanks for the comments anyways. There are a few rough bits, (only used a week and a half or so) but careful photos to avoid those areas helps
  12. Lovely. Glad I have two on the way
  13. Pay the postage and she's yours mate 👍🏿
  14. Forgot to mention that I have some vallejo model color acrylics that seem ok after 5 years now. Thats from when I restarted this hobby about 5 years ago, built all armour with sprayed tamiya acrylics (mentioned in above post) and then used the vallejo for brushing details and painting figures. All the other acrylic paints/sets I own are only 2 years old max as thats when I started with Aircraft and the subsequent experimentation and collecting with/of different brands.
  15. I don't see why not - The GB gallery is closed to further replies but there's nothing stopping you from doing a regular 'ready for inspection' thread once its done.
  16. You know what that rings a bell. I'm sure I made up a dark red wash as well to try out once I decided not to use the black. It looked too strange so thats when I resorted to using the deep grey.
  17. +1 on the tamiya acrylics they do seem to last forever. This is a good question to raise because I love buying all these acrylic themed sets when cheap/on offer (along with AM decals) for planned future builds. Hoping when I get around to them in 10 years or whatever that the paints havent dried out and decals gone yellow!
  18. Well she's in the gallery! Fastest thing I've built in a long time, about a week and a half! Tried to avoid the rough bits in the photos Will do a proper RFI at some point with more pics. Thanks for looking, Tony
