  1. Hi Boris - Be aware - HMS Laforet has a longer aft structure than HMS Loyal, Laforet was the flotilla leader and had the extra space. For the M class - it was similar for Milne. Technically speaking - to represent Loyal - you need the HMS Musketeer version. I may well do Loyal in her 1942 colours that I feel are likely B5 - MS4/507C as per the IWM Starboard side photo. Rob
  2. Hi Jon - Following @Tegethoff's thread about HMS Loyal's colours - I bought and have just read "Fighting Flotilla" by Peter Smith that relates th story of the L class ships - well worth it!! I've spent some of this morning looking at Atlantic Models website pondering. There are some Fab pics of her and they really are good looking ships FWIW - I'm with @beefy66 As to Cemtex - a "dry asphalt" grey is a sure bet and Norman Ough states "It is usually given a coat of paint, either dark green or dark blue, which looks rather handsome...." I'd be doing the rest of the decks in non-slip grey. Others have suggested that it came from different manufacturers in different shades - ? It's your call, no-one is going to contest this. You and I should be tagging each other with builds and motivation Rob
  3. Hi Boris Are you planning a build in 1/700 or 1/350? If in 1/350 and at the time of the Salerno landings, will you be using the "Darker" colour (Most certainly 507A)? The reason I ask is that you've got me enthralled with HMS Loyal in the 1942 scheme of the lighter ?B5/15 and 507C. I've collected all the Micromaster pieces I need and originally planned HMS Meteor though I'm now torn. Thanks for the recommendation of "Flighting Flotilla" - read and finished it - hugely informative. The pic of Loyal laying the smokescreen off Salerno clearly confirms that she retained 2 Quad torpedo sets foregoing the 4" gun that I believe all the others had fitted. Such great looking ships. The pics of HMS Lightning in her 1942/43 scheme are also intriguing though not so good quality as Loyal. Rob
  4. Possibly easier but I find matching the hull colour more pleasing. I usually use a brush after the railing is fitted and dilute the Colourcoats slightly less than for the airbrush PM inbound BTW Rob
  5. Expertly done Jon - beautifully executed camouflage scheme. Though I do agree with Beefy and Jeff about the railings. I always paint the lower bar the corresponding colour of the hull and paint the railings themselves a dark grey rather than black which seems to work. It's a lovely model, the first I've seen completed and you've done it great justice Rob
  6. Coats of sovereign colourcoats "Gulf Armour Light Stone" were misted over The rust base colours were sprayed onto the dozer before some "hairspray" And thanks again to @ivan-o for pointing me in the right direction Thanks for looking Rob
  7. I'm with Jeff - Congrats - thoroughly deserved Rob
  8. Good things come in 2's. She's a great looking model and vessel. I always liked the look of these. Great sea base once again - take a bow young man!! Rob
  9. Late to the party too but that is hugely impressive Rob
  10. The crane looks tremendous - it's really coming together Rob
  11. Pre-shading begins using Mig One shot Primer The Scorpion Miniatures light/guards are fitted The Dozer arms are attached abd then primed The turret mantle is attached using CA glue - fit is good though will be hidden by the ERA The turet top/bottom halves were "filled" with Mr Surfacer 500 and then stippled The basket was assemebled and fitted well - some 0.3mm holes were drilled in the parts to accept the moulded lugs The etched basket mesh was fitted - care being taken to curve gently around the delicate plastic frame The basket was attached and final detailing ocomplete on the turret The aerial bases were fitted from an FC Model 3D printed set And some jerrycan holders were scratched as most of the Gulf war Centurions carried these on the sides of the baskets Not a lot to show for a couple of days work And as an aside I was quite impressed by the new Airfix Sea King, who'd have thought! Looks a very nicely detailed kit and the fact that there are still 2 flying with Heli-Operations was new to me. Which possibly explains why I saw one fly past my house on the Monday after Fairford Could yet be tempted. Thanks for looking Rob
  12. Nice job - the first I'm sure, of many of these to come Rob
  13. Nice one Crisp - looking forwards to ths with huge interest. Looks a really enticing kit. Sorry to hear about the court case, and looking forards to seeing you back at Ark Royal in the near future Rob
  14. Gold - Thoroughly deserved I'd have thought - lovely build and spot on weathering Rob
  15. That's a cracking outcome - looks 1/350 not 1/700. Lovely clean modelling, rigging especially nice and a base to pull it all together. Rob
  16. Looks Fab - "sharp and neat " sums it up Off to RFI to see more Rob
  17. Thanks Dick - what are your thoughts about the earlier lighter shade on the bow ? Rob
  18. Hi Bertie - that's kind but I'll wait for Ben's Here's the PE version that Northstar did previously - so useful for larger 1/350 vessels Yes - and it didn't work for me EJ - the difficulty is getting it to "coil" or hang I feel pretty certain that 3D printing is likely to get to the most realistic representation Rob
