  1. Yes, I may have been a bit vague in stating that it was a "Hannants" Comet 4B, as a) possibly it is a 4C with the pinion tanks, and possibly also Hannants is reselling a kit made by someone else. It is in fact an AIM Transport Wings model sold by Hannants, although it's not entirely clear to me if they are owned by Hannants or not. At any rate, I bought the kit from their website, as in the link below: https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/TWL7208200 It is also definitely a 4C (after checking), so good spotting. I'm not very good with serial numbers and the like, so apologies. Apologies also to Hannants if the kit is not theirs, but the principle is still that the kit was poorly made and the instructions were worse. As for the modeller, well... Anyway, my intention was to present this build and its difficulties, in its present state. As I indicated earlier, I will go for a "clean up" of the model in March, which will involve a fair bit of filler, sanding, and printing proper decals. Frankly, on opening up the box, I had the impression that the hit and decals had all been made sometime in the 70s or 80s. Does anyone have any comparable experiences? Or even a really good build of it (I'm sure it's possible)? Best Marc
  2. hi all, I completed a poor build of the Hannants DH106 Comet 4B kit back in November. I have already written something about it in sroubos' post of a very nice build of the Fliegerhost kit of a Comet 1, so I will just give the link to my post below: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234986810-dehavilland-dh106-comet-172-finally-done/page-2#entry2278590 This post also gives a link to my blog about my frustrating experience and very poor result. BTW, I expect criticism of the type "you should have done this instead of that", "why on Earth did you do this", etc: I am a poor modeller and that's the truth, but I am trying to improve. Best Marc
  3. Great looking model, congratulations! Worth the hard work. I had a go myself at building the Hannants Comet 4B kit over the spring, summer and autumn 2015, and I am NOT at all happy with the results. Below, you'll find a link to a blog I threw together halfway through the process, in order to document my frustration. I have deliberately not adopted my own, home-made fixes to appallingly bad issues, like the decals for example. I have used the original ones from the kit (actually, two sets, coz the first one fairly disintegrated) so that you can see exactly how bad this is, for a kit costing, overall, 125 quid. Now I am not an expert modeller by any means, and some of the issues are entirely my own doing and not Hannants'. I have tried to be honest with this in the blog. I will this spring do a "partial rebuild" in which I will repair the pocked right front fuselage and reapply decals and possibly reapply some paint here and there - the masking occasionally leaked. Here is the link to the blog (divided into part 1 and part 2) if you want a larf at my expense: http://mycomet4disaster.blogspot.fr/2015/10/hi-there.html Enjoy! Mark
