  1. Sorry for never replying! Yes, it is. Enjoyable build, went together very well with only a little filling required. This was a bit of a mojo builder for me and it certainly fulfilled that! In that awkward stage now where I've been fiddling about with an airbrush and not quite getting as good a finish as I was with my hairy stick :/ Oh well, practice makes perfect.
  2. Ugh I was looking forward to this being my Christmas build, holiday period was going to be my first chance to build anything for months *sigh*
  3. Thanks! Yeah, there's a couple of places where I put ease ahead of accuracy. Didn't know that about the door, I just placed it where I could get it to stick! It was a great fun kit to build, so I think I would like to do another build and go for full accuracy.
  4. Erm, not really to be honest. I used to ask the same question of some of the other excellent brush painters here on BM. Basically, I prime with Tamiya grey primer and then build up my layers. The first coat looks pretty awful, as does the second. After the second coat things begin to look a little more normal, so I give it a light buff with a buffing pad (I use a Flory one) or just a paper kitchen tool. Then I apply the third coat. Depending on the colour that's usually enough. It comes out pretty smooth and, in this example, I applied the decals straight onto the finish. Other colours, the green for example, I applied a fourth coat. I think it is all a case of experimenting. I'd heard a lot of praise for Vallejo, but I found myself getting too many brush strokes. Hataka was more workable for me, and produces no brush strokes.
  5. Thanks for the kind words guys! I've found them to be excellent for brush painting. I've never tried using the Blue Line (specifically for brushes) because the Red Line being pre-thinned for airbrushing paints on very nicely with a brush. I build it up in three coats over a grey primer. First couple of coats usually look pretty poor, but the third coat bring its it all together. I've been very impressed with the colour density and the finish it gives. Depending on the colour I usually thin the paint just a little with the Hataka thinner, I've found some colours require little if any thinning whilst others need a little help - I guess it is to do with pigmentation? This build, for example, I placed the decals straight onto the paint finish without a varnish. This is the 3rd model I've finished with Hataka paints and my trusty brush and I've been pretty pleased with the finish in all cases. That being said, I've just gotten an airbrush, so now I'm tinkering with that...it's a whole new ball game for me!
  6. Here's my 1/32 Revell Spitfire. I finished off the build late last week. It was a great kit which went together nicely. Really pleased with how it came out and especially the paint. Brushed with @HATAKA OFFICIALRed Line paints. Weathered lightly with Flory Wash and Tamiya Weathering Sets. Plenty of little errors across the model, but I'm pretty chuffed with how it came out in the end. Enjoy
  7. Stunning, and a really great finish too. The detail pops out really well too.
  8. Stunning build! I particularly like the detail inside the canopy.
  9. Great build, the underside really catches my eye. Impressive stuff!
  10. She's a wee stunner Muzz, really nice crisp finish. I'm not overly keen on the extent of the pre-shading (maybe it's a consequence of the camera?), it seems like there is a little too much contrast. I think it probably is something to do with the camera/photo/lighting as I think the paint work is superb when viewed side on. Either way, it's a cracking model, bet it looks good on the shelf! Itching to start my Fitter now.
  11. Really coming alive now, looking forward to seeing this finished up
  12. The variation across the NMF is really convincing. She's looking really good, getting tempted to pick this kit up.
  13. What's better than one Foxbat...? I think I'll need to get one of these kits to go along with my RBT kit!
  14. Yup, for sure! I got a little carried away. I got a better grasp of it when applying the greys, browns and beiges. Anyway, lesson learnt. Looking forward to trying it again on a different model. It's a fun effect, I like seeing it bring the model to life. It also reacted nicely with the MIG panel wash that I used, when the two mixed it result in quite an pleasing effect.
  15. I wasn't too happy with the effect it gave me. It's only my second time using oils so I'm just testing out ideas. I went back over it with greys, browns and beiges to get some colour modulation across the grey. That gave me the effect I was looking for. Some of the original dot modulation work is still visible, but it is very subtle.
  16. Here's my 1/72 Trumpeter MiG-31 for the From Russia With Love GB. You can find the build thread here. First off, I know, I know, there are a couple of horrific seams! This build was completed as I was in the final months of my PhD, so for me it was something to take my mind of the thesis and help me relax. It was also a chance to test out @HATAKA OFFICIAL paints and some new oil based weathering techniques. Probably not the best way to kick off my first RFI, but I thought I would get the excuses out of the way early Anyway, to the build itself. I was impressed with the fit and how the kit went together with the one exception of the intakes. Struggled to get the seam sorted out, and in the end I decided not to go too far and lose too much detail. Painting went very well, brush painted @HATAKA OFFICIAL Red Line paints and was very pleased with the finish. I tried out some oil paints for the weathering and was satisfied with the outcome. For me, it looks like a MiG-31 and that's what matters! With any luck this will be one of my final brush painted kits! Sorry for the terrible pictures, but hope you enjoy nonetheless!
  17. And she's finished and up in the gallery! http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235019878-gallery/&do=findComment&comment=2792399
  18. My 1/72 Trumpeter MiG-31. Build thread here. Enjoy
  19. That's a cracking looking Tomcat, itching to start mine now!
  20. Just a wee sneak peak. She's finished now, but this is what I was up to yesterday... Full reveal tomorrow
  21. Outside is always the best option, but as you're probably aware, the weather up here has been pretty awful of late!
