To Mozzie or not to Mozzie? That is the question.
-
Snapped my scalpel blade, trimming the end off a tiny bit of sprue to make a locating pin. Oof.
-
First visit to Newark Air Museum today. Well excited.
-
Lots and lots of wiggly lines. Now to ensure I paint green where the grey goes and grey where the green goes.
-
First coat of primer on the upper side of my Tornado. I'm in the mood for dancing.
-
God, I hate sanding. The next build will definitely be Milliput-free.
-
That bundle of plastic bits has suddenly started to look like a Tornado. I love this moment. :-D

1/72 Airfix Vulcan, product of many hours' work and source of much pride, fell off display cabinet and sustained significant damage. I will work out how to repair it ... currently considering bursting into tears as a starting point.
-
McDonnell, thanks for your faith! At the moment, it's lying rather sadly, on its back, on a chair in the study, waiting for the day I can face starting work on it. I'll get there. Funnily enough, the airframe it's based on - XL385 - was completely destroyed in a take-off accident that also caused damage to several fire engines, an ambulance, an RAF Police Land Rover and the runway, so it could be worse.
-
Currently spending a lot of time painting instruments. Conclusion: Tornadoes have too many controls. Future RAF acquisitions should be limited to On, Off, Fast, Faster and Kaboom.

Tornado on the bench!

Ooh, a nice choice, with the good old dark green/dark sea grey wraparound camouflage and the wingéd camel/dromedary/whatever. I'm holding out for the new Revell GR1 to do one myself. If I am a lucky boy, I can pick up Xtradecal X48138 at the weekend at the show in Bühl. I have X011-48 in the stash - this is the one with the squadron markings, and this could do with a reprint or update IMHO.

Vulcan finished! :-D
-
Nearly got all the decals on my Vulcan. Broke one of the roundels with over-vigorous poking, but it went back together. I'm in the mood for dancing.
-
Blasted undercarriage. The finish line is so close, and here I am fiddling with little spindly bits that won't stay straight.
-
Made a right cod's of painting the radome on the Vulcan. Buggrit.
-
That is more or less what I did. The situation was complicated by the fact that I'd painted the radome after the rest of the aircraft (black on white - marvellous) but I went round the edges with the tiny piece of rolled-up sandpaper I'd been using on the insides of my 1/72 Vampire intakes. It's not perfect, but it's a damn sight better than it was and it'll do.
-
Can't walk past my Vulcan without smiling. Even with only a coat of primer on her upper surface, not to mention the signs of my poor workmanship all over her, she's already a beautiful bird.

The RAF Museum at Cosford. WOW.

I did see an advert for those. There was one the day before my visit, in fact, so I've now signed up for the newsletter. I'm a couple of hours' drive away at the moment, so it's well within reach. I'd like to go back soonish and look round the rest of the museum, since I got sort of stuck in the Cold War Exhibition....

Dipping a toe into the murky waters of figure painting.

Post-Manx Grand Prix blues mitigated by the chance to spend time with my Vulcan.

Bikes, bikes and more bikes.

I personally thought the marshall nearest Kate's wasn't far enough up the road. The racers only saw him at the last minute if the yellow was out. That cost the one chap the 30 second penalty, cause he didn't seen him whilst being behind another rider. There was a bit of daft outbreaking going on too. Guess I'm used to the TT riders.
