  1. Milliput at 1/72. So many tiny yellow sausages. I enjoy this hobby. I ENJOY IT. :drunk:

  2. My two weeks away from the bench have begun.  Missing my Mozzie already.

  3. Tornado finished! :yahoo:

  4. To Mozzie or not to Mozzie? That is the question.

    1. AlexN

      AlexN

      What species of Mozzie?

    2. CurrantBunbury

      CurrantBunbury

A 1/72 Airfix NFII/FBVI/FBXVIII. I think I'll go for the nightfighter. I've currently got a Tornado at the decalling stage, so if I clean and tidy the study today then I think starting the Mozzie might be my reward.

  5. Snapped my scalpel blade, trimming the end off a tiny bit of sprue to make a locating pin. Oof.

I did! A cheese and ham one, to be precise. Just the thing on a cold day.

  7. Lots and lots of wiggly lines. Now to ensure I paint green where the grey goes and grey where the green goes.

That might be the only thing that'll stop us going any further with this nonsense! XD

      "Riders on the Storm"?

  9. God, I hate sanding. The next build will definitely be Milliput-free.

    1. Head in the clouds.

      Head in the clouds.

No it won't, all models should come with filler, the two go together!

    2. CurrantBunbury

      CurrantBunbury

Aye, you're right about that...but I do think my relationship with this particular filler is over for the time being. It was grand while it lasted, but I think our time together on the Airfix Vulcan was just too much.

  10. Enough procrastination. On with the Milliput.

  11. That bundle of plastic bits has suddenly started to look like a Tornado. I love this moment. :-D

  12. 1/72 Airfix Vulcan, product of many hours' work and source of much pride, fell off display cabinet and sustained significant damage. I will work out how to repair it ... currently considering bursting into tears as a starting point.

    1. mcdonnell

      mcdonnell

Sorry to hear that. She won't be the first Vulcan to have made a hard landing and recovered from it.With your skills, she'll soon be back to former glory ;)

      cathasatail

When I was hanging my vulcan from the ceiling, the front wire snapped and the nose gear slammed into the wall (it has been repaired since).

    3. CurrantBunbury

      CurrantBunbury

McDonnell, thanks for your faith! At the moment, it's lying rather sadly, on its back, on a chair in the study, waiting for the day I can face starting work on it. I'll get there. Funnily enough, the airframe it's based on - XL385 - was completely destroyed in a take-off accident that also caused damage to several fire engines, an ambulance, an RAF Police Land Rover and the runway, so it could be worse.

  13. Currently spending a lot of time painting instruments. Conclusion: Tornadoes have too many controls. Future RAF acquisitions should be limited to On, Off, Fast, Faster and Kaboom.

Or just build drones and you need not worry about cockpits again.

I wouldn't be surprised to see 4 buttons marked with a circle, triangle, square and an X

    3. CurrantBunbury

      CurrantBunbury

Hahaha. I wish I had the skill to produce that on my model! Incidentally, I do enjoy painting the little buttons and dials, however badly I do it.

  14. Tornado on the bench!

      CurrantBunbury

Hey, Paul. It's the 1/48 Italeri IDS. If I can get hold of the right decals, I'm going to build a GR1 from 45 squadron, circa 1988. The Tornado is my favourite aircraft of all time and I'm excited. :-D

    3. Steve Coombs

      Steve Coombs

Ooh, a nice choice, with the good old dark green/dark sea grey wraparound camouflage and the wingéd camel/dromedary/whatever. I'm holding out for the new Revell GR1 to do one myself. If I am a lucky boy, I can pick up Xtradecal X48138 at the weekend at the show in Bühl. I have X011-48 in the stash - this is the one with the squadron markings, and this could do with a reprint or update IMHO.

Good Man with a Good Choice,Enjoy the build and I look forward to seeing her.Happy Fettling!!

  15. Vulcan finished! :-D

      CurrantBunbury

Thank you. She looks beautiful on my coffee table. :D

  16. Nearly got all the decals on my Vulcan. Broke one of the roundels with over-vigorous poking, but it went back together. I'm in the mood for dancing.

    1. mcdonnell

      mcdonnell

      Good news.Well done,That Man!! All the best,Paul.

    2. CurrantBunbury

      CurrantBunbury

Thank you! It's all down to the quality of the decals, I think, which were strong enough to go back together neatly in spite of the efforts of my fat finger.

  17. Blasted undercarriage. The finish line is so close, and here I am fiddling with little spindly bits that won't stay straight.

    2. CurrantBunbury

      CurrantBunbury

I should have been clearer there. The little spindly bits were assembled some time ago; the current headache is attaching them to the aircraft. I have, however, carefully stood the Vulcan on its wheels and it hasn't collapsed, so I may be winning after all.

    3. Procopius

      Procopius

Have you tried swearing at them?

    4. CurrantBunbury

      CurrantBunbury

Yes - I think that was what swung it in my favour. One of them is still a bit wobbly, so I wonder if I overdid it a bit and hurt its feelings, but the other two are rock solid and I'm now annoying myself with decals. I love modelling, it's just these bits at the end...

  18. Made a right cod's of painting the radome on the Vulcan. Buggrit.

    1. Col.

      Col.

It's only paint. Sand it back and you'll be good to go again ;)

    2. CurrantBunbury

      CurrantBunbury

That is more or less what I did. The situation was complicated by the fact that I'd painted the radome after the rest of the aircraft (black on white - marvellous) but I went round the edges with the tiny piece of rolled-up sandpaper I'd been using on the insides of my 1/72 Vampire intakes. It's not perfect, but it's a damn sight better than it was and it'll do.

  19. Can't walk past my Vulcan without smiling. Even with only a coat of primer on her upper surface, not to mention the signs of my poor workmanship all over her, she's already a beautiful bird. :D

No such creature as an ugly Vulcan.

I live about 20 minutes from Cosford and have been there on too many occasions to count! It's brilliant and especially their open cockpits evenings-worth a visit if you ever get the chance to! :P

      CurrantBunbury

I did see an advert for those. There was one the day before my visit, in fact, so I've now signed up for the newsletter. I'm a couple of hours' drive away at the moment, so it's well within reach. I'd like to go back soonish and look round the rest of the museum, since I got sort of stuck in the Cold War Exhibition....

Welcome to the Dark Side, try the popcorn :) What are you painting?

    2. CurrantBunbury

      CurrantBunbury

Thank you! I've got three of the Discworld miniatures, which I suspect are not going to be the easiest for a beginner, but oh well, you don't learn as much if you just do the easy stuff, do you? I've set up a WiP if you want to follow my wobbly progress.

  22. Post-Manx Grand Prix blues mitigated by the chance to spend time with my Vulcan.

      CurrantBunbury

And how! :-o They had a bit of a week of it up there, I think. It's become quite a popular place for riders to visit at short notice.

I personally thought the marshall nearest Kate's wasn't far enough up the road. The racers only saw him at the last minute if the yellow was out. That cost the one chap the 30 second penalty, cause he didn't seen him whilst being behind another rider. There was a bit of daft outbreaking going on too. Guess I'm used to the TT riders.

  24. Thank heaven for Milliput.
