  1. Everyone at my local IPMS club bought at least one of these kits yet I, the ship modeler, am the first to build one. C'mon aircraft guys!!! The 303 barrels are from Master, the seat harness (unseen) is from HGW(?). A few of the kit details have been reworked as the detail didn't come out of the molds well, most notably in the pictures the engine cover fasteners. And for fun I separated the rear wheel from the mount. Nice build, the easy to fix part fits (fuselage halves, wing halves) were so-so, the hard-to-fix part fits (such as clear parts, undercarriage, flaps & fins, wing roots) were very good.
  2. Thanks to all. @Macgregor: nice! @bzn20 it's 10" long x 7" wide and a couple high @DenPhil the cars are in the spares box. It seemed weird to add the cars but no people. Do you want them?
  3. Our local club runs a group build for the Xmas meet and this year's topic was "anything that floats". As a ship modeler, I wanted to do something different (and I could never start and finish a ship in less than the 8 months available) so picked on this little, er, gem that I've wanted to build since I was about 10 and the kid two doors up got one. Glad I didn't get one then, it's a tough build and probably would have put me off for life. It's built as much out of the box as possible.... Finished about an hour ago, the Xmas meet is tonight. Before anyone says anything about the decals on the fins, that's what I got in the box, those logos were not supplied as opposite sides.
  4. Not a newly completed build but with so many subs being posted I just had to. The PE set is the GMM Gearing set - additional doors, hatches and rails from the Flyhawk generic sets. 20mm twin mounts are compiled from a number of PE sources and some scratch items. 5" barrels are from L'Arsenal. It's a good kit but still has had many tweaks.
  5. Thank you. It's painted using Modelmaster acrylics (Sand, light grey and dark earth); sand as the base colour then mixes with the other two colours to hand paint individual planks. Respray with sand to tone down the colour variance. Sealed with future for umber and black washes.
  6. Thanks all. @ Ray vd M: The plating is pretty much as the kit is molded, there are a couple of very small tweaks around the bow. I have added hull plating on other builds using paper steeped in CA. @ paul178: the photos I have looked at of the ship at the time modeled do not appear to show any boot topping. That doesn't mean there wasn't, but usually it's easily spotted; so builders choice.
  7. Put together over the period of about two years using WEM's QE class PE set and various other PEs generic sets as well as turned barrels where available. Many, many, many mods to the original kit from raising the foredeck by about .060" to rebuilding the anchors.
  8. Incorporates the Eduard 'Big Ed' set. The kit canopy had to be ground down by about 2/3rds to allow it to be stacked open. Main undercarriage struts have been rebuilt from brass tube and paper. The blue insignia circles and white stars are airbrushed as are the larger numerals; striped rudder as well. Exterior paint is from K4 from Chile.
