  1. Thanks Woody and Shawty. In the past I have created stencils of nose art using masking tape and then hand painted detail in otherwise there is some company in Sydney I believe that can make decals of what you want done for a price. Cheers Bruce. Pity you can't make it.
  2. Thanks guys for your comments. There are two thoughts on the scheme from people I have spoken to. It is well known that George was damaged by a bomb going off underneath which may explain the repair to the rear, but it also has something to do with the manufacture as many components were constructed and painted off site and added on during construction or salvaged panels were fitted to speed up production. George was built in 1942. I have depicted him prior to retiring to Australia. Bombernut, As you said, it is very difficult to see the scheme in Anzac Hall due to the lighting. Most of my images were taken on a scissor lift moving around the aircraft hence the accuracy of the scheme. These images were supplied for me and unfortunately I have been asked not to share them at this point in time. You will notice however, standing on the port side of the aircraft on the platform in Anzac Hall the change in green at the upper turret. I can tell you, there are four shades of green and two of the dark earth/middle stone but because of the light and sit of the aircraft this is very difficult to see. Regards Andrew
  3. Finished ready for Model Expo 2015. 1/72 Airfix B.III Lancaster finished as a B.I 'G' for George of 460 Squadron RAAF with RAF Resupply Kit for bombs and tolleys. Type: AVRO Lancaster B.I Serial: W4783 AR-'G' for George Based: 460 Squadron RAAF, U.K. - Various bases. Scheme: Standard British Lancaster scheme. History: Built in 1942, 'George' completed over 90 missions with great success whilst with 460 (RAAF) Squadron based in the UK and is distinguished as returning every person who served on him 'home'. He was later donated to Australia as a War Tours aircraft before being retired to the AWM. The variation in scheme of this model is how he was restored after being withdrawn from display in 1999 and stripped back and now on display at the AWM today. Kit: Airfix Lancaster B.III 'Dambuster' (OOB) back dated to B.I from kit parts. Decals generously supplied by Airfix. References: ADF Serials, Internet, Peter Maloney and personal images
  4. Thanks again Fellas, Steve, George does have the aerial under the fuselage but interestingly doesn't have aerial wires like other Lancasters.....well it doesn't in the AWM. Here he's almost done; David Brown Tractor almost done also, as are the bomb trolleys.
  5. Ah crap, I knew there was something I had to still do for you Bruce and that was find Peter Malone's email about the red stripes on the spinner. Looking good though.
  6. Cheers again guys, Steve, I have multiple images from all over George. The only images I don't have any of are the rear turret detail. I know it has the four gun set up but I don't have close up detail. Is there anything in particular you want a detail image of?
  7. Cheers guys. Indeed you are right GMK. George was built in 1942, some 3 years into the war, and I'm sure besides some sub-assemblies being painted elsewhere with different coloured paints to the norm and some of the parts would have come from salvaged aircraft and returned to AV Roe to be used to speed up production of these aircraft due to attrition. I hope to have it finished Wednesday when there's better light in Melbourne.
  8. Hi Guys, Long time lurker, first time poster. A lot of the Aussie guys on here know me from the Aussie Modeller International and Airliner/Civil Aircraft Modeller websites where I am one of the moderators on each. For those that don't know me I predominantly build Australian Defence Force models (mainly aircraft) and try where I can, in 1/48 scale. Where I can't (or can't fit them in my cabinet) I build in 1/72 scale. I also build on commission for others in all scales. Due to work, building models, moderating and family I haven't really had the opportunity before to post here. I want to share with you my current build which is the 1/72 Airfix 'Dambuster' Lancaster which I have converted back to represent Australia's most famous and well known Lancaster 'G' for George which is currently preserved in its war time markings at the Australian War Memorial. About 5-10 years ago 'George' was stripped back to reveal its original scheme which I have tried to replicate here and should have completed over the next day or so. I hope you like it. I apologise if I don't respond to any questions or comments as I generally have a lot on my plate. And preparing the load out and trolleys Regards Andrew
