  1. 'Merlin' installed. Exhaust ejectors are Eduard 632196
  2. And it was a dive bomber! Must’ve been quite a ride
  3. Cheers Adrian! Yeah I know 'your' Heinkel, it got roughed-up a bit by 603 and 602 Spitfires, AA fire and a drystane wall!. Interesting markings on it I recall. KG 26 Heinkels did recon for the 16 October raid on the Forth. Regards, Ian
  4. Dora Splintered. Paints are Vallejo Air. Oh and talking about air, the boys can breathe easy now, 'cos I got their airlines sorted, courtesy of Pastor John at AIMS. Part no 32P051 in flexible rubber is available from Hannants (and maybe other sources?) ...and I've mounted a 3 amp 'Merlin' in the Spitfire. The motor is an N60 Mini from eBay, and it's powered by an LR44 coin cell battery held in a PCB spring clip battery holder, all fitting under the Kotare kit's top engine cowling. Chocks away Pongo!
  5. Superb work. Love the cockpit, can almost smell it from here!
  6. Cheers Keeff! Glad It’s working so far. It’s all a bit experimental. First thing I’ve ever airbrushed. Having fun tho’!
  7. Dunkelgrün for Dora Schwarzgrün tomorrow, hopefully Bin a busy day wingin' it. Underside of the Kotare Spit's mainplane in white and night. Doing it wheels-up as you can see, a bit of a faff with scalpel and saw.
  8. Thank you. Just glad to finally get some paint on her topsides. Had a nightmare with the primer. Thank goodness for IPA. Sometimes feel she’s fighting me all the way. Certainly learned a few lessons on this build!
  9. Back to dora again, and prepping the fuselage and wing-uppers for her warpaint. The dark green and even darker green of the splinter camo mean the pre-shading will be pretty full-on to have any effect. Paints are Vallejo. 1 simple panel lining in black 2 Highlights picked out in Aluminium 3 Overall black misting to reduce contrast a bit 4 and a scoosh with dirty water while she's still wet to blend it all together Looks a bit like a Mackerel!
  10. I decided to go with the HGW seat harness. Tally Ho!
  11. Ok a bit of a side-order on this thread. Taking a break from Dora after Santa brung me a juicy Mk I (early) Spit from Kotare! I'm building it more or less straight from the box, apart for some brass wire and nickel rod, and the Sutton Harness which will be after-market. The model will represent 603 Squadron's L1070 as it was in October 1939 – Dora's nemesis in my Dogfight Double! First the Pilot. A work in progress which is why he's 'armless – they'll get added after I've worked out how to fit his harness. I've got a choice between Eduard steel 33207 and HGW mixed-materials 132639 for the Sutton harness. The Eduard is in four bits so may be easier to put on a figure. The HGW is a different kettle of ballgame which may look better but which stretches my skills and patience beyond breaking point, and then a bit more. Will see if I can actually get the Pilot into it! BTW the Pilot is the love-child of ICM's 32105 and Aerobonus' 32059. Then there's a couple of shots of the cockpit, again work in progress. So here's a few Spitty bitty piccys. With arms temporarily attached. Still to do his goggles, oxygen hose and audio connection lead I initially tried 0.1mm nickel silver rod from Albion Alloys for the control lines, Kotare calls out 0.15mm but I cant find that gauge anywhere. The 0.1 was too floppy and as a result of trying to put a bit of tension on it I cracked the rear frame in this shot. Also the 0.1 was practically invisible anyway. So I tried 0.2mm instead, again from Albion, and that was much better, more rigid and you can actually see it!
  12. Final shot of the navigator before squeezing the cockpit and crew all together. He and the gunner have each decided to take a stahlhelm with them in case they encounter Flak over Fife (they will). The gunner has left his on his seat. What's Deutsch for "How come all you guys sit on your helmets?" But I guess that's from a different movie. Riding with the top down! Dry fit Tried to show all four crew together but the gunner can barely be seen. Thats a bit of his back and shoulders below the Radio Op's left elbow. I think adding the crew gives an impression of scale that's quite startling. How small a Ju 88 actually was.
  13. Crew Suited and Booted. Just a few touchups to do... Pilot and Ventral Gunner Pilot, side view. His feet are already placed into the aircraft's rudder pedals, hopefully that'll make it easier to get him into position Navigator. Studying his Baedeker of Scotland Have to repair the supports on the Navigator's seat... ...and give his boots a polish Radio Operator and Pilot seated. Still need to attach their seat belts to the seat mounting-points, and to add rank patches to the guys sleeves – Oberfeldwebel for the Bordfunker, and Oberleutnant for the Flugzeugfuhrer. Also need to attach oxygen hoses and audio leads to all of the crew. Quite pleased with how the boys turned out, they should pass muster when under canopy 'glass' and viewed actual size. Most difficult part was getting them to fit into the furniture! Seat belts were mostly Eduard metal (32632), the side-arm holsters (Luger and Walther) were from the spares box. The Navigator's map was a download of an old Baedeker, printed to inkjet decal paper and transferred onto a scrap of white polythene shopping bag, so that it would hopefully fold and crease realistically.
  14. 88 Crew ready to be painted-up – after extensive orthopaedic procedure to get them actually fitting into their extremely cramped positions. I said the cockpit was smaller than the inside of a Mondeo earlier, I was wrong. More like a Cinquecento! L to R: Bordfunker (Radio Op/Rear Upper Gunner); Flugzeug Fuhrer (Pilot); Beobachter (Navigator/Front Upper Gunner); Bordschutze (Ventral Gunner). They'll be reacquainted with their arms after they're all sat nicely – and I've done their seatbelts, O2 lines and audio leads. They're all wearing oxygen masks and goggles. So I don't have to paint any faces
  15. Ha ha yes, well spotted! The image is of a popular 1930s movie actress, so I guess one flieger was punching well above his weight 😍
  16. Working on the underside of Dora Heinrich's wings. The ETC500s (bomb launchers) are by L'Arsenal, part number AC3201, if they're still available. There are a full complement of four in the L'Arsenal set, but I'm only using the two in-board ones. The aircraft on the Firth of Forth raid of 16/10/39 only carried two SC500s each. I guess to cut down on weight and drag over a 1,500km mission over the North Sea. The SC500 bombs are by MDC, part number CV32042. Pre-shading First coat of Vallejo RLM65, with darkened and lightened shades Misted top coat of straight RLM65. Weathering will be minimal as the aircraft was practically brand new at the time of the raid. Underside dry fit, might not need to glue the wings on as the fit is so good (port engine is running!)
  17. Munitions 2 x SC500 bombs by MDC
  18. Fabulous work! That Spit really lives. Straight out the box?
  19. Both engine pods now ready for final sanding/filling/re-scribing, then onto painting. Engine gauges have been added and the cowl flaps corrected with thin plastic card. Decals for the gauges were represented by scavenged bits from Aims 32D002 'JU 88 Instruments'. I checked out the crew's seating arrangements, VERY cosy. There's more room in a Ford Mondeo! Figures are a mix of Master Details and Aerobonus. The Bordfunker needed an early-style collar to his schwimmvest, which was cast in Milliput. Heads and limbs will be issued before the commencement of operations!
  20. Took a wee break but we're still in the air! Working on the power plants now. Airfix prop motors will be powered by CR2025 'Coin' batteries in switched holders. Everything will be contained in the engine nacelles which will be removable, held in place by neodymium magnets .
  21. Stunning in any scale, but in 1/72 - Amazing! A real labour of love. Dig the wee gun camera!
  22. Nice work! Well preserved 42nd (Highland) Regiment of Foot, known (unofficially at the time) as the Black Watch ? 95th Regiment of Foot (Rifles) Grenadier à pied de la Garde Impériale Chasseur à cheval de la Garde Impériale Light Dragoon (British/King's German Legion) Mameluke de la Garde Impériale ?
