  1. I decided to go for using my copper mesh for the walkway. This was how it worked out on the SR-71 ladder so something like this. I also found a real small bulb for the orange warning light behind the cab So with a tube that sits alongside it the result is this It needs some tidying up & the filler hatches to go on it but it’s not bad
  2. Got the new paint in today so brushed a quick bit on the underside. Definitely a better colour. However it’s currently -2 in the garage so no spraying anything for a bit! It’s Humbrol 123 by the way. So will be the first time spraying Humbrol acrylics
  3. That make sense @alhenderson - thanks! I have put the exterior tape frames on the canopy. The plan is then to run a tooth pick with some superglue over the tape. That will stick it in place and harden the tape up. And there shouldn’t be enough glue fumes to fog anything. The frame isn’t exactly right to me but it fits the kit glazing & I think it will stay like that. I got some new reading material too And the two part resin arrived to fill the prop hubs Hopefully it will be a bit warmer next week to get back to the garage. I don’t think I will be allowed to cast resin in the kitchen! Mind you, -4 or so here isn’t too bad. I have a friend in Edmonton Canada who was talking about -24 but it wind chill it was -49!
  4. I went for the evergreen with some superglue. Looks ok. Paint in a darker colour will make it look less chunky. Couple of curved rails at the top too, but I will put on the walkway first. Need to fabricate the ribs under the tank soon and the chassis side trays and pipes
  5. That’s an idea to think about. I had thought of pressing a pattern in card but that comes out over time. I have various grades of wire for the ladder although some evergreen strip might work too
  6. Adding bits to the outside tonight. There are two, er, air scoops? one on either side. They look like exhausts but facing forwards. Nothing like them in the kit so out with some tubing & plasticard. A couple of other bumps and some tail actuators And a scoop(s) on the other side I think I need the frame on the canopy outside to be done next, then another prime over the body. Then, as Tom suggested, get the wings on. My new paint is on the way to then top coat
  7. The joys of a disaggregated PD day! Not just the kids at home on those. Had one on the end of the Christmas hols
  8. I did wonder about doing one & making a mould for the rest. But the plastic on the outside is probably easier to work. I couldn’t see how they would hold together as hollow shells with 6 white metal blades poked into them! Painting all those blade tips is scary enough!
  9. Not much done today. Possibly the last bit of kit vacform is now on. The support for a white metal mast on the roof was fitted this morning. I kept thinking it’s not central as the top anti collision light is off centre just in front of it I have been looking at the prop hubs too. All 4 are now together, so considering the next step. I think I may cut the flat back off and fill them with resin and put a brass rod on the centre. I can then fit in in my cordless drill and smooth it to shape. The resin would give a good base to drill into to fit the separate white metal blades. Think that might work?
  10. Did a little improvement to the body / chassis join. I drilled a new screw fixing hole through the chassis ahead of the rear wheels so both screws fix to the metal chassis. I also cut out the steps in the tank. The edges were a bit rough so I put some superglue around the edges to strengthen them up I need to find a nice material to make the tank top walkway around the filler hatches. I have used mesh before & might do again, although the ones I have are either too course or too fine. That, a short step ladder below the tank side steps, plus the pipe attachment points below the tank
  11. That’s sounds like a good idea. Think I will get some of those
  12. Of course! Took off like a fighter. Just look at the speed on the runway. Used to love the displays when the Lightnings would take off & go vertical, then the Vulcan would do the same. It sounded like someone was trying to tear the sky apart. Talk about car alarms going off!
  13. I assume they don’t come with the Sanger decals? Was thinking they may be made from tape! Think you are right about the wings though. There will be quite some filler & sanding at the wing roots. I might give the body a base coat of dark sea grey, join them & then over all top coat extra dark sea grey
  14. The Vulcan not enough for you Tom? I couldn’t help thinking of this https://youtu.be/YYOgsgnZ8dw?si=gj7Xw3z6dY7afUf1
  15. Felt the need to check that the lights are still working The interior lights are a bit disappointing but the rest are still going. They will probably pack up when I attach the wings!
  16. Cheers @Karearea - I haven’t tried airbrush spraying Tamiya acrylics and I have to say I am not a great fan of their rattle can so I was trying to see if Vallejo would work. So now I will need to see how Humbrol bottles spray. Getting there slowly with the rest of the build. The fuselage is almost finished now, apart from vent & antennas so it is mainly paint for now. Oh, and still got four prop hubs to build and 24 blades to paint and attach! Something tells me next week’s cold snap may delay painting…..
  17. Just order some Humbrol Extra dark Sea Grey 123 so I think this will be getting a top coat
  18. Trying the Vallejo dark sea grey on the wings. I am still not sure it’s dark enough or got that bluey grey look. Finish is patchy at the moment, although with some touching up it would be ok. Just not sure it’s right
  19. Yes @LorenSharp daunting at times. I got no good amount of time on the kit in November/December so catching up a bit now. It’s rarely as bad as you think it is, you just need a bit of quality time
  20. Yes, feels like it’s getting somewhere now
  21. Couldn’t help feel the tank sat too high. I have fitted two blocks of balsa wood inside and screwed it down tight to the chassis. I think that looks much better Next will be cutting out those rear steps that recess into the tank. Then walkway mesh and tank filler hatches on the top of the tank
  22. Another round of filler behind the cockpit. Then I thought I might as well fix the tail on Going to have to preshade the wings soon
  23. Cheers @LorenSharp - imposing definitely!
  24. So sanded back, P38, primer, sand, liquid green, sand, prime. So far… Then one more coat of primer. It was cold in the garage. Got bleed on to the glazing. Doh! I think the temperature was so low the spray was quite heavy and too much liquid. I have cleaned it off as much as possible and while it not great I will try to polish it up a bit when things are a bit further on. Only three small spots really I guess Anyway I wanted to see how things looked so most tape off & stood her in her wheels & tail wheel. I want to get this done now
  25. Baby steps with blending in the glazing. I managed to superglue up the sides of the main canopy with fogging it, and added some to the front and back to really fix it in place. The first fix was with Uhu which I find dies clear, gives you some time to move parts after attaching them & sets pretty solid after about 24hrs. The back join was interesting. It seems that the fuselage sits a bit lower on the left than the right. So I have dropped on a thin plasticard strip to build the fuselage up and better meet the back of the glazing. This will then need some P38 around it & lots of blending in. along the way I gripped the fuselage and dislodged the white metal nose observers seat. The result is that I have had to take off the nose glazing, resit the seat & glue it back up. As I said, baby steps…
