  1. Yes, kind of got used to seeing this grey airframe sitting there. Looks better with some detail going on
  2. I got my Extradecal roundels today so decided to brighten up the old grey lady. I put on the first walkway lines (more to come!) and then couldn’t resist the roundels Still pondering the serial numbers and others, but it’s good to see her coming to life
  3. Not easy to get good pictures of big builds. Watch those cardboard hangers though, they can become addictive
  4. That’s quite a build Loren. The basics looked interesting but the detail yo7 added and the lights really set it off. Great work. No smoke machine??
  5. I had a look at what else I had & found the original kit decals sheet. I picked the kit up as a MR.3 from ebay and got the parts to do an AEW2 instead from Sanger. So I still have the original decals too. They are rather yellow but some sunlight might help there. They include separate large numbers with separate white under decals. They might do better for the largest serial number. However I done have a plan for white underlay on the tail 60.
  6. Glad it’s not just me being inept then! The worrying ones are the nose side badges and the stripes either side of the side roundels. I can replace the roundels but will need to paint a white base or use that kit white decal base. Neither approach appeals! No idea how you did the white under the numbers Tom
  7. Got some bigger warning signs printed & fitted I think they finish it off, so calling the Bison done
  8. Decals, decals, decals. I didn’t have high hopes for them. But apparently my hopes were too high for these. First, the Sanger decals are on a continuous film & need to be cut out. Not the worst though. They have, I presume, printed them onto decal paper on a standard printer. No white. They provided a white sheet which has to be cut and put on first. I have no idea how this stuff is supposed to work but it folded up & brokers soon as it came off the backing sheet So off to eBay from some usable roundels. Perhaps the yellow lining could be usable? Looks quite bright. Needs to be cut out but must be worth a go? Turns out without white backing it is transparent. No use really. It’s a good job Tom suggested getting yellow lining decals a while back. That leave the worry of the kit specific decals, nose side pennants, white backed underwing numbers (can probably get away without the & the tail number too as the red seems a lot better than the yellow lining). Perhaps have to paint white backgrounds on. Anyway, it’s not going to be easy!
  9. There might be a pennant for both sides but the overall decals set is pretty minimal. I have been scouring the decal box for dashed yellow strip to put around the rear cockpit windows & various others that are not in the kit. I also have a horrible feeling that the decals are printed on a sheet of film & are not separate, so each will need cutting out before soaking. Would have been nice to motorise the props but that would have been a step too far! A quick coat of Klear to seal things
  10. Great to se any Wattisham Phantoms Lord Riot! There is a photo of the underside of a Wattisham J on a double page of Ian Black’s book. Hope he won’t mind that I took these pictures of it Sorry for the rubbish picture - I could probably do better with some better light & a scan but hope it helps, especially with the belly strap. I have made them from paper in the past Looking forward to following this one
  11. The last bit of glazing is on. She has domes! I dug out the decals to see what the kit includes I know I have the other yellow lines, but these may be useable. Not many decals there really.
  12. Tried to get a better picture of where the Shack is up to. Barely fits on the kitchen worktop. With the Bison tanker that is almost there. Kettle for scale Today saw the window frames get a top coat & various bits tidied up. The side heater intakes got a coat of Vallejo steel Underwing lights all uncovered now and all still working Might have to think about decals & wing walkway lining soon
  13. Ready for her nose (paint) job And with the black on I can take off the tape over various windows lots of bits to touch up but feels like progress
  14. I printed some hazard signs for the Bison today. Tiny little ones, 5mm on the orange sign & 3mm on the others I put them on & I think they are actually too small! Might need some bigger ones. The laser printer does a good job So on the Bison Might print some bigger ones and see how they look
  15. And in the daylight. Going for a slightly lighter grey with a hint of blue. Think that will do it As you can see from the second one I had a small run on one side of the nose. And the tail ends could do with a touch up. So a few bits & hand painting the window frames & then I will try the anti reflection black on the nose. Feels like progress
  16. Well @marvinneko I have dropped some shims in and the tail sits a lot better. A nagging doubt says that the whole fuselage sides are out a bit and the tail was straight but the main spars may be out a bit. But too far in now to get back in to that. So a bit of time and I have gone for a paint mix. Lightening the grey a bit & dropping in a touch of blue So sprayed it on It’s too cold to get a good even dry in the garage so she is back in & will have a look tomorrow at the paint finish. Did the hubs and wheel bay doors too Let’s see what the morning brings
  17. Still need the safety signs on the Bison but a chance to get in the sunshine with the Bedford tanker and the Sherpa
  18. Pipes on & painted so I put on the yellow hi viz stripes and RAF wording. I need some safety signage to go on the sides & back but I won’t be near a reasonable laser printer until next week, so just about finished
  19. Last bits of pipe work done on the Bison. Need to paint & fit them then it’s just decals (and maybe lights on the cab roof) Took a day out getting a bit of inspiration for builds to pose with the HAS I may be planning a Bitburg C model and this is a Lakenheath E, but still…. Any one of these one day?
  20. Yep, have a bit of a wonk on the tail. It’s really not far out but at some angles it looks bad.
  21. With some trepidation I started drilling in to the sides of a hub this morning. The holes are just about right for pushing the blades in for testing. The results? looked good so had to fit it on & see how it looked there Again good. So what about all 4? I have done two with the props lined up and the other two slightly offset. The 60 degree gaps just don’t do it for me. Needless to say I am rather pleased with that
  22. All bits now attached apart from a left rear pipe run that I haven’t got to yet. Lights painted on the front & back so apart from the pipes she is ready for decals. Shot before the body went on showing the nut & bolt holding the cab in place And outside in daylight Also got exhausts through for my planned F-15C build Looking forward to getting that one started
  23. I always like to see some leds, but you get into the realms of ‘scale lights’! They could be too bright & could shine through your roof material. A dimmer light or low voltage may be best. These are a standard cheap led light string running on 3v. A single string may work better for yours.
  24. The Humbrol 163 has always just been my go to quick solution. You never could mix & match Humbrol pot & cans, so the nice Hataka paints help as that will spray or brush paint. But it means setting up the airbrush each time. Plus the 163 and 164 dark sea grey were both satin finish which would take a decal nicely. May just be a supply issue with the 163, but I haven’t ever seen 164 again.
  25. You can see with the hubs that the resin is making up any gaps Makes them nice & solid and shapable. So I sanded them smooth and cut the line between the front & back parts. I have set up a card base template with 120 degree lines marked out for fitting the blades. I will paint them before they go on, but next job will be to drill the holes to take the blades and test fit them So the plan for the props look like it’s coming together. Need to think about the main body paint, remaining main undercarriage mechanism and black non reflection panel on the nose. it’s getting nearer to being done I feel!
