  1. Hi Craig, just noticed your comment. Sorry, not been on here for a while! I can't remember exactly where the wheels came from, but, I seem to think they came off ebay. Another Tamiya kit uses them & they were being sold as spare parts. I hope this helps, good luck. Phil.
  2. Hi, I've just finished this, my latest offering. It started out life as the standard "Martini Porsche", however, I didn't like the look of the black wheel covers that came with the kit. So I set about searching the internet for alternatives. I managed to find the correct BBS alloys you see here & also a decal set, to convert it into the number 40 car that appeared at Le Mans in 1976. This was my 1st departure from hand painting, by using a rattle-can for the main body colour. I feel that I have come through some sort of right of passage, doing the Martini decals over the wheel arches. What a pain in the ****! Thanks for looking http://
  3. Another very special build. I'm definitely going to start researching my builds & adding extra detail where I can from now on. Makes the whole model "come alive".
  4. Another great build. I look forward to seeing more!
  5. Very nice. I might have to go down the varnish route on my next kit!
  6. Very nice model. I love the weathering, especially the wiper arc on the windscreen.
  7. Nice modelling sir! I especially like the laptop detail.
  8. Nice job Wayne. I like the aerial detail & the rivets etc around the nose cone. The engine cover has also come out well. I think its good to see both our models on here at the same time. Its interesting to see how different people build the same model. As I'm new back on the modelling scene, what is this Microsol you speak of? I take it, that it protects the decals in some way? Once again, good effort!
  9. Hi DD, Tie rods etc were definitely tricky. There were a few bum twitching moments! The engine cowling was a pain in the ****, but once it's on, it fits ok. I didn't separate the side pods from the centre section, so mine will never be coming off again! I did notice that its a bit longer than my other models, inc 1/20 F1 cars. So, annoyingly it wouldn't fit in the same size display box as the rest. Next up for me is an old 1976 Tamiya 1/20 Porsche 935 "Martini" kit. I have a few changes planned, so it won't be completely standard. Good luck with the rest of your build, I look forward to seeing it.
  10. Hi all, this is my latest build. Not quite finished, as the tyre decals were perished. The downside of buying old kits via ebay! I have ordered some new ones from America (Indycals), so hopefully it will be finished soon. I'll also be removing the mould lines on the tyres. Again with all my previous posts, this kit was hand painted. Air brushing undoubtedly gives a better finish. But, for me, I find brush work somewhat therapeutic. After all our hobby is supposed to be nothing if not a relaxing time away from modern life! As per some other members posts of the same model on here, if you want to see the engine detail, the best idea is to remove the side pods from the cowl & have the centre section removable. Trying to remove the whole engine cowling without destroying the decals or ripping the mirrors off would be something of an achievement! This is something that I wasn't that concerned with. This is a snap together, no glue required kit. However, I must admit I glued everything as per a normal kit. I prefer the security of knowing its a good solid fit. I've not seen any interviews with Nigel Mansell, post race. But if he had to mention all his sponsors in the time honoured Indycar fashion, he'd have been there for ages! There are a lot of decals on this model! Patience is definitely required! Thanks for taking the time to have a look. Next up is a bit of a Porsche mash together, watch this space!
  11. Absolutely beautiful paint finish. A real deep glossy shine. Looks like you've spent hours on it with a polishing mop!
  12. I think Loll would be very pleased with how you've finished the model.
