  1. i purchased the AK caunter set for a m3 stuart i am building but i usually use vallejo. can AK paint be sprayed neat like model air if not what should i use to thin it? the products i have available are vallejo thinner, x-20a and ipa
  2. whats a good surface to practice airbrushing camo patterns? i saw a video where someone used one of the plastic disc that tend to come at the top/bottom of stacks of blank cd/dvd, that seemed a good idea but i havnt bought any blanks for years, can you get them separately?
  3. this is a bit of an older kit, not as detailed as the v2's and had some flash in places but still went together nicely. biggest problem i had was painting the white, would probably have gone better if i used white primer
  4. thanks for the replys and likes, been building another MG kit from the same series, keep putting off finishing it.
  5. i couldnt sleep last night so painted some parts in the orange fire colour and it went on fine but its a bit thin, i had got a couple of spots of white on one of the parts and they still show up even after a couple of coats that was sprying it unthinned at about 20psi might get a can of tamiya white primer and give that pot of pale flesh a try on some spare parts although i tried it unthinned yesterday as well
  6. has anyone used this paint with good results? i bought some as there are interesting colours in the range and i thought they would be good for gundam models, i tried using the pale flesh colour tonight with valljo's airbush thinner but got really bad results, poor coverage tip kept clogging i ended up changing to tamiya white
  7. finally finished the ball last night, dunno where the time went though i collected my camera about 9ish and took the pictures at about 5am i didnt do much in-between or just sit around doing nothing either, the decals were horrible one sheet just fell apart the other was small stickers that were quite obvious when applied to the model so i didnt bother, i might buy some tamiya 40mm tape and try cutting the EFSF lettering into it. i would post a picture of the offending sheets but i cant find them now
  8. i checked white ensign and hannants and couldnt see the 1/700 mogami or kumano, i might pop into manchester tomorrow and see if the shop there can order them my local shop is overpriced and run by arseholes. as for the Illustrious carriers are kind of boring and unless its a recent kit id rather not buy airfix as there older ones have lots of flash and bad part fit
  9. what would people recommend as a first maritime model? i was looking at tamiya's 1/700 mogami on amazon as it looks like an interesting ship but was a bit put of that theres no uk sellers, also the 1/350 academy Bismark as its good value for money. do you think its a good idea to start with a smaller scale first?
  10. painted the double canon and 180mm mount tamiya gunmetal with a bit of vallejo model air steel, going to paint the arms and 180mm canon itself in either tamiya rlm grey or j.n grey not decided which yet with the decal sheets is the sheet with the latin index wet decals and the one with the hiragana index dry decals?
  11. i wasnt very happy with the paint on the body panels as it was patchy in some places and very thick in others so last night i sanded it down, i was planning on picking up a pot of tamiya clear orange and giving the parts a light coat of that but i dont think i will bother, after 2 coats of klear a bit of the shine was restored and theres a nice chipping effect on some of the edges
  12. i managed to get the broken thread out of the airbrush so for now i ordered a .3 and .5 needle/nozzle/tip £15 for both probably still get an ultra at some point. this is the first gunpla i have done, really impressed with what you get in the kit for the price. i also have the MG RGM-79[G]GM which im going to do once i have painted these models.
  13. primed all the remaining parts and painted the hull tamiya orange tonight, really annoyed though my cheapo chinese airbrush has been playing up and cleaning all the parts i managed to sheer the thread off the nozzle. think i will replace it with a H&S ultra which i probably cant get locally so i cant finish this or the t-62 im painting until next week
  14. i painted those parts today, need to clean up a couple of bits. also my camera's are crap the colours dont look right at all, will have to get my 550d back is a gundam marker the best way to do panel lines?
  15. washed the sprues last night, built the inner shell and stand and laid it out for priming/painting. going to try sparying decanted tamiya so playing a bit of dayz while the propellant boils off
