  1. Sorry - more fake model images I'm afraid! I'll try to get some printing done over the weekend but a lot of parts will need further refinements and mounting points built in.
  2. Hi Jessica, Thanks for the tip on the wire, I think I'm going to increase the thickness of the plastic in that area and then sand it back to be a sharper edge if necessary. The plastic is fairly strong but that area was stuck to the print bed and was damaged as I removed it. That newport is stunning! Thanks for sharing, maybe one day I will have the patience and skill to produce something like that... but I'm definitely not there yet!
  3. Thanks guys - tonight's update: CAD is coming along... And a poor picture of a few test prints
  4. Hi all! New member here! A few years ago I had a go at making a model kit for the first time since childhood which turned out fairly well: (1:72 Sopwith Camel, I think it was a revell kit) I then forgot about it again. I am a product designer so making things is an everyday occurrence for me but not small scaled, highly detailed aircraft. Recently I have found myself looking at others models and getting the itch again! I have therefore decided to dive in with both feet and and taking a lot of inspiration from Fozzy, Quentin & many others, start a scratch build. The subject will be familiar, a Sopwith Camel. The scale goes up to 1:48 and the build will be done with only items that I can find around the house. As it happens I've found several reels of PLA and a 3D printer! (Is that cheating?) This build will not be a fully accurate rivet (stitch in this case?) perfect replica but what I consider to look 'right' for a camel. If it looks right, it'll fly right; right? ...I should mention at this point that I am no expert by any means other than having an interest in aviation from an early age and playing various (combat) flight sims. So far I have started some drawings, found lots of reference material and conducted a couple of test prints. The plan is to print the main areas of the aircraft frame, fabricate details from bits found around the home and cover the fabric areas with doped tissue paper. So far: Any tips, hints or scathing insults welcome.
