  1. Can I bagsy the first four please (yes, I really want to build that many GR4s!) I'm thinking... 1x Operation Telic jet 1x 41sqn jet (two tone grey with black radome) 1x Libya campaign jet, possibly with 617 squadron markings (in progress) 1x GR4A, markings as yet undecided!
  2. I think that what I'll have to do...although they don't seem cheap these days, alas the ones on there at the moment are top dollar! I have bought them before to pilfer things like pilot figures, decals, BOL rails, Hindenburger tanks and even the rare release which for a while was the only way to get a RAPTOR pod!
  3. Sorry, I should have been clear...1/48
  4. I'm planning on building two Tornado GR4s (well, one is a 4A) from the Italeri kit, with a selection of aftermarket bits and pieces robbed from the old airfix GR1 kit. The only part I am struggling to find is the FLIR fairing that is alongside the LRMTS under the nose. I realise you can get this part from the Airfix GR4 boxing, and the Flightpath set, but the airfix kit is expensive and hard to come by, and the Flightpath set (having used it before) is expensive and far too fiddly and somewhat wasted on me! Does any company make an aftermarket FLIR pod - I seem to remember Airwaves doing one? Will
  5. Prior to operation Telic (iraq 2003) every photo I ever saw of a Tornado GR1 or GR4, regardless of whether it was in the grey/green scheme or the two tone greys, had a black radome. The jets that went to war then wore a very light grey ARTF scheme (closest to barley grey) so the black radomes would have stood out much more than on the usual 'european' schemes. The first jet I saw with a light grey radome was one of the Telic jets on the BBC! Since then, grey radomes seem to have become ever more common across the fleet. I have no idea which the first jet was, but I will say this - if its pre-2003, a black radome would certainly have been the norm! Since then the waters have been muddied somewhat!
  6. I know the Brit jags had better engines but it still amuses me to hear them described as having a surplus of power! A bit more grunt for any Jag would be nice! :-)
  7. Its cancelled as the kit decal sheet is said to be so comprehensive! Printed by Cartograf, with full stencilling for airframe and ordnance, and enough markings to model any F-15K!
  8. Apparently there are some extra parts in the tamiya boxing - pilot figures at least, which the basic italeri kit doesnt include apparently.
  9. Thanks for the advice folks - a bit more complicated than I expected! May have to track down another kit, maybe an F-4D instead of an E...
  10. I fancy building my Phantom as something a bit more exciting than a norm90 Luftwaffe jet, which is a bit drab if you ask me! Can I build it as a Vietnam era USAF F-4E? I like the SEA scheme and have plenty of weaponry for a heavy load of iron to take up north! Or how about an Israeli F-4E (not sure on the mods to make it an upgraded Kurnass 2000 though)? I know the basic kit will suffice for either jet in terms of airframe but details like TISEO fit or which jets have slotted stabs get me confused!
  11. The only UK F-4Js were the 15 or so RAF F-4J(UK)s and they never went to sea - by the time they were bought the old conventional Ark Royal was long gone and we only had the 'harrier carriers'.
  12. The BLU-107 is indeed the Durandal - its the BLU-109 thats the 2000lb 'hard target' bomb body often used with paveway 3 or JDAM guidance kits.
  13. James....NIIIICE! How did you find the fit of the decals in the end? Am tempted to build that jet myself as its such a good looking scheme and I have a spare set of decals still
  14. I bought a job lot of ten (!) of these kits off ebay a while back for £45 - apparently the guy wanted to do the entire patrouille de france formation in 1/48, but decided against it on space grounds! Upon seeing the kit i'd say space was the least of his problems - building ten would be a nightmare. ?Needless to say, i kept one kit for myself and sold the rest on. Nearly doubled my money in the end which was nice! The remaining kit is now hidden in the darkest corner of my stash however, and i'm not sure i'll ever build it.
