  1. Sat thinking the other day, I've not done a kit review and build for ages because along with a quite a few of our like, I seem to have lost a bit of Mojo! Anyway, I saw this sat on the shelf and thought, why the hell not use your semi-interesting, A-Level journalistic training and do a bloody review... so here it is! Eduard 1/48 Avia B.534 III One of the last mass-produced biplane-fighters, the first of the type flew in August 1933 and an initial order of 100 units was placed by the Czech Army Air Force with deliveries taking place in late 1935. Main users, were the Czechs, Bulgaria and the Luftwaffe and in 1939 after the German occupation of Bohemia and Moravia, large numbers of B.534s were acquired by the Slovak Air Force and used against the Russians. Powered by a 850hp Hispano Suiza HS-12Y in-line engine, it had a max speed of 245mph, a range of 360 miles and a service ceiling of 35,00ft! The Kit Standard Eduard 'Weekend Edition' of no frills, no extras and minimal marking options. This cames with 2 sets of livery and I'll be doing the Luftwaffe version totally OOB build with no extras and what could be described as a 'quick build'. Four crisp sprues of grey plastic and one transparent greet you when opening the box and still one of the things that bugs me about Eduard kits is their insistence on sticking everything in one bag! Nice, clean decal sheet and finally an A5 sized instruction/construction manual. Theres plenty to be built before you have to think about paint, so the cockpit and fuselage sides were built up before being primed and painted in Vallejo Silver. Sub assemblies of the radiator and instrument panel were primed and painted and wings were also primed to check for any flaws. It's looking far too clean so tomorrow will be an oil wash on the tub and murk it up a bit. So although I only spent an hour or so on her today, progress seemed swift but I suppose that is the idea of the Weekend series kits!
  2. Good evening all... Not strictly a newbie as I joined in 2013 apparently and despite posting 8 times I have zero recollection of this! Wasn't sure or not if I introduced myself that time so will do this! My names Glyn and I'm an alcohol.... Oh, wrong group! Massive lover of all things Cold War and WWII and 90% of my builds will be on these subjects, live in the lovely seaside town of Sidmouth, Devon and having run a small but well established Model business back home, the urge took me again so I re-opened 'darn sarf' (NOT TOUTING). Been suffering from a major lack of mojo recently so re-stumbled here after trying to gain some inspirationa and drive again.... It seems to have worked! I look forward to sharing my work, having it critiqued and gaining some 'cyber' buddies! Keep it Sticking!
  3. Another one of those "I'm not gonna do this so you might as well build it for me" kits from a much loved friend! He is a definate wannabe modeller who doesn't really have the time to be fair.... I'll return it in completed form and he'll amazingly show everyone 'his' handy work! As Always its up to me which scheme its in so I'll be going for this one (middle) as I like the Rafale and think it looks good in grey camo! If anyone has built this and can offer any pre-build advice, gimme a shout.... I'm off to the cricket over the weekend so won't be back till Monday evening with another update!! Also, if anyone has any Gunze Mr Hobby H307/308/315 going spare and for sale, also give me a shout as I'm running low
  4. I don't know whether to be inspired or distraught!! Beautiful build!
  5. I think 'let down' is it bit harsh Tim! If it's been built OOB or by following kit decals, not everyone does their own research... All this aside, it's a cracking build...
  6. I love rigging! It's kind of therapeutic! With regards to the post about them being too light, they were a natural rope type colour when new of I've been told right by the Shuttleworth guy! Only natural weathering made them darker...
  7. Next on the bench is a paid job of an Eduard 1/48 Sopwith Camel..... It was one of those "I bought it and can't be arsed to do it" kits from a friend I know through work... I know I was with him when he bought it at Telford! He wants it in two weeks so the challenge is on as I know it can take me that long to rig the bloody thing up and make a base!! He'll also tell all his other buddies that he did it! Images to follow once I know how to get the bloody things to work as it appears images taken on an iPhone 5 don't like working with Photobucket!!! Meanwhile, anyone with a jar of My Hobby Aqueous H85 (Sail Colour) going spare give me a shout
  8. Colin, I use the Flory washes on a gloss coat (Klear) but it has to be left for at least 24 hours to harden or yes it does stick to it and I also agree with you when you say they are a bit hit and miss.. The Black and Dark Dirt seem to be okay but the rest as you say can be a little 'chalky'.... Not tried the new MIG ones yet but I will be doing....
  9. I have a few of these in the stash, might have to get one out now and do the back of the box 'snow' scheme...
