  1. Who said ‘Life is what happens when busy making other plans’? Might be a mis quote too? Looking forward to hearing from Channel Bertie again soon!
  2. Of course, with regards planking the 2nd layer, if the planking is going to be painted then it’s very easy to not worry too much about the aesthetic value. There has been debate about ships having the lower hulls painted, and if so, it takes away the stress of a perfect planked wooden hull. Doesn’t it?
  3. As always enjoying following your progress. Indeed, I have found with ship modelling you have to learn a lot of techniques to do with planking, making eyelets, chainplates, rigging blocks, rigging deadeyes etc etc involving making jigs etc etc. That by the time you’ve finished a model (which can take over 2 years in my case), and started a new one you almost have to completely relearn the techniques again! You come across jigs you’ve made and wonder what was that for. Thats why I too will throw in a nice simple plastic kit (preferably Tamiya for its accuracy or a Wingnut Wings) to keep my sanity and get some satisfaction from a completed model. I’m still rigging my Endeavour, but will also have other projects on the side such as a 1/32 Tamiya Spitfire. (Got a WnutsWings SE5 to do sometime too).
  4. I dont think there’s a model I’ve made that hasn’t ended up with me making some stupid error, and resulting in me taking desperate measures to remedy the situation. I don’t like using CA but needs must I think sometimes. Sometimes ‘accelerator’ helps, plus a tip from somewhere that a bit of saliva on one surface to dampen can help and give an initial ‘catch’.
  5. I’ve just been doing my daily tune in to Bertie’s channel but find there’s just general chat! Don’t get me wrong I like ‘chat’ but where’s the modelling gone? 😂 No pressure or anything. I’m the last person who should complain because I have never done a WIP in my life. I think I’m too afraid of starting one and not completing it.
  6. The blue clamp lower right hand side was a recent discovery for me. The long jaws have proved very useful. Think I have all the other clamps too. ‘Cant have too many clamps!!’
  7. Things seem to be going too well for you at the moment! I’m waiting for the next catastrophe😂
  8. I’m impressed with the effort you’re putting into this model. The serving and seizing look great, it’s the details isn’t it?
  9. We’ll be celebrating Xmas before you, Haha! Happy Xmas to you and the girl!
  10. Just thought I’d say Happy Birthday to Tess. A fine looking lass!
  11. Great to see a new build log started. My go to when sitting down in the evening before dinner, that and a glass of wine. What do you reckon will be the time line for this project?
  12. It wouldn’t just be a H&S officer, you would have a cultural/environmental sensitivity officer here, plus an animal rights activist and who knows who else, all requiring counselling!
  13. Well that’s fantastic! Beautifully presented. Needs a glass case though. I think you deserve a Vikings funeral in that whale boat if you can squeeze in it!
  14. Haha, Do you think you will deserve a Viking funeral??
  15. The whole colour scheme works well. The woodwork combined with blues and blacks. Going to look amazing. Will it sit in a glass cabinet?
  16. Very informative thanks. I just spied the Ultimation tool there in the background! Just received one myself, and very pleased with it too!
  17. OMG! What a shock when I saw the photo of the smashed model! Amazing, but good on you. It’s a big thing!, I’ve done it with books before, gave up reading halfway! The Cutter Alert looks great, but the AOTS Anatomy of the Ship book has soared in price!, see link https://www.abebooks.com/book-search/title/naval-cutter-alert/author/goodwin-peter/ A popular build on some ship model forums.
  18. I’m tempted to post a photo of my library, but I think you may have had a enough of book collections for now!
  19. Sorry Bertie, wood bending can be the most challenging process. It can be a slow process. I think the most popular method is with wood soaked in water, and the use of a soldering iron. I think I’m getting more excited by your build than you are!
  20. That’s the beauty of modelling, you get a kick out of seeing each stage develop.
  21. Yes, hull planking mainly, although there maybe other things to bend? BTW looking good already! I can see the shape of a ship!😂
  22. What are you going to use for bending the wood? Or how are you going to bend the wood, or have I jumped the gun and you haven’t considered that yet?
  23. What’s wrong with only wanting to talk about your hobby? Although you could get me going on heaps of subjects, including politics here in Oz, politics in the rest of the world! Wokeness, climate change, etc etc😂
  24. Look, we’re all hoping the dog gets better and you get back your mojo! I think all of us sometimes go through phases like this. With model building it can sometimes be hard to start something, or complete even. But once you get going theirs no stopping. You again start to look forward to the next days project. Then begin to relish it. I don’t normally write much, and I think I’m rambling, but hope this helps let you know we’re think of you. (one of the reasons I don’t write much is because I can’t type, it’s just 2 fingers forever typing typos!). Plus English was my least favourite subject. in fact French was my least favourite.
