GB Chat ~ We Have A Winner ~
Sgt.Squarehead replied to AnonymousDFB1's topic in Less than a Tenner Group Build
I used up my entire daily quota of 'Likes' and I didn't even get to the second gallery.....I will continue tomorrow, all the builds in this GB are splendid, it just goes to show you don't need to do £40 or £50 quid on a kit to get a good result. -
New Airfix Jeep & Higgins Boat - a quick look in the box
Sgt.Squarehead replied to John's topic in AFV WWII
The omission of a folded tilt was the one significant gripe with the Airfix/Heller kit (that and the bridge-plate).....I was hoping Airfix would sort it with this kit. It won't stop me buying half-a-dozen of them of course.....You can never have too many Jeeps! -

Ye gods that was a difficult choice.....Some amazing models in this GB. Congratulations to all who took part.....That really is an impressive finished model gallery! Sorry I didn't get round to joining in. -
1/72 GMC CCKW-353 Gasoline Tank Truck

You can't really add this sort of detail fast though can you.....Especially when you are researching it on the fly! Any chance of a close up of the pump components once you've cleaned them up.....Based on the spiffing instruction sheet, at least one of the larger components looks very similar to the onboard pump carried by the French Army Tanker. -

Excellent work Nige.....It's really taking shape now! Are you still enjoying the build? -

Another cracking build Navy Bird.....I shall be settling in with a cuppa! Congratulations to your daughter. -

It all looks so nice on the sprue too! You are doing very well to have got this far.....One of these things nearly put a friend of mine off modelling for life! There is an upside however.....Anything you start after this kit is going to feel like it falls together! -

Why not make some replacement doors out of lead foil.....It'd be a nice touch. Based on what you've done inside that banana, I reckon you could easily detail the cab interior without resorting to too much aftermarket. -

Captastic! What's the plan with the cab.....Are you going to super-detail it? -

Reckon you need a filler cap on the fuel tank now.....The detail you've added makes the kit part look a bit bland. -
Underwhelmed.....The skin texture is ghastly, looks more like a rose-trellis than geodesic structure. Maybe you could partially fill it with liquid putty, but it would be a lot of work.

Cheers for the detailed response.....Now I need to find a 1/72 Sherman I ARV (guess who got an M4A4 version)!

Tell you what Nige.....This thread is gonna be a goldmine for future Braille Scale GMC builders. I may have a few figures that could be of use.....Detail's not much better than the Hasegawa ones, but even those could be made to look respectable with a good scrape and maybe some head and hand swaps IMO. Preiser are usually your best bet for quality 1/72 figures, but their range isn't huge and they can be a pain to get hold of. -

Dude the DUKW book was attached to the e-mails I sent to you.....You will need to use WinRar to reassemble it. If the box in question sits immediately in front of the petrol tank, then it is indeed the battery: https://www.flickr.com/photos/john_64/sets/72157631419111812/detail/?page=11 -

Don't bother replacing the disc Nige.....It's a 'bridge plate' and unlikely to be found on a post-war airfield vehicle. Enjoying what I'm seeing.....Keep it coming! PS - Did you get the DUKW book OK? -

Not sure a bowser would have a winch Nige. I've come to the conclusion that the truck and towed pump option is realistically your best bet (it should simplify your wiring).....Were you to go the the Academy/CMK route, you'd wind up having to hollow out resin lumps for your 'electrickery'. What are your thoughts on figures? -

Could be artillery stonks called in.....Those little blighters had 25lb teeth! Smashing model.....I'm a bit jealous TBH. -

Discovered this place in my traveles: http://cckw.org/forum/index.php I suspect this conversion will indeed be more interesting than building the Academy/CMK version, but my offer stands.
